Not long after Hotch got off the phone, a couple of officers, along with Morgan and JJ arrived. As they walked through the bullpen we looked over at them, watching as a pair of officers near the middle of the group struggled to get ahold of Sam. Unsurprisingly, he was causing a scene; flailing himself about as he repeated something along the lines of you're making a mistake. One of the officers holding him muttered an annoyed response and rolled his eyes, pushing him forward as they ushered him into one the questioning rooms.
I looked over at Reid and swallowed hard, watching his expression fall into something between sadness and frustration. I leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder, letting out a heavy sigh as JJ and Morgan moved to meet the rest of us.
"He's been like that since we picked him up," Morgan shook his head.
"You think he's on something?" I questioned curiously.
Morgan merely shrugged, shoving his hands into the pockets of his pants as he glanced over at Hotch. "What's the plan?"
"Reid, I want you and JJ to go in there and talk him down. He needs to see that we're not a threat to him," Hotch responded.
Both JJ and Reid nodded and quickly left, leaving the rest of us to stand there. With a sigh, I sat on the edge of one of the desks, scanning the two of them as rounded the corner out of sight.
"Morgan, call Garcia. Find everything you can about Sam's past. Maybe we can dig up something useful. Isla, right now I need you on standby in case Reid and JJ need anything. I'm going to meet up with Rossi and Blake and see how things are going with Regan." He slipped his hand into his pocket, pulling out a set of keys as he gave the two of us a nod of confirmation and stalked off.
"I'm surprised he hasn't fired you yet," Morgan joked, bumping his elbow against mine.
I snorted and bumped him back as I slipped off the edge of the desk and made my way to meet the others. On my way, I grabbed a quick cup of coffee, pouring in my usual amount of sugar before giving it a quick stir and continuing on my way.
When I arrived outside the room I was met with a series of loud yells coming from Sam who was still visibly distressed. On the opposite end of the table sat JJ and Reid who gave each other curious glances as Sam slammed his fists against the table. "I didn't fucking do this! I didn't kill anyone!" He narrowed his eyes at the two of them, his face red with anger as he continued to struggle under the grasp of the handcuffs.
I crossed my arms over my chest and took a quick sip, feeling the warm liquid trail down my throat. Almost instantly I let out a sigh of relief, feeling the exhaustion I once had slowly slip to the back of my mind. As I drank, I watched how Sam reacted, taking note of all his possible behavioural changes.
JJ took the lead, asking Sam a series of questions pertaining to the night Leeman was murdered. Like his sister, he admitted to being there, but instead claimed it was her who orchestrated the whole thing. As he spoke, I noted the information he provided. Unlike Tammy, he was clear on the details. According to him, she'd called a couple hours prior to ask him to meet her so she deliver some news, only to find himself at Leeman's doorstep.
"I thought about leaving, but knowing Tammy was in there with that sick fuck," he shook his head, his eyes remaining locked on JJ's, "I couldn't do it. I had to go in there."
"What happened after you went in?" JJ asked.
"Tammy freaked out. She had a knife to Morrison's throat and was yelling all kinds of shit about how he wasn't treating her right and how he promised to leave his wife."
"Did she ever mention that to you?" JJ raised her brow.
Sam nodded. "All the time. I don't know a whole lot about the guy, but it was obvious he was just lying to keep her around. A guy like that wouldn't just leave his wife, because he knocked up some chick." After that he recounted the events that happened next. According to him, Tammy then started yelling at Sam, ranting about how unsupportive he'd been. At that point he started getting uncomfortable and told her he was leaving. Before he could though, she knocked out Leeman and ran at him with the knife. "She told me if I didn't help that she'd kill me." A small sob escaped from Sam's lips as he looked down at his hands. At this point he wasn't struggling anymore, which gave the rest of a sense of relief. A stressed out unsub was never good, especially when they had vital information.
