The whole ride back we sat in silence, staring out the windshield of the car as we drove towards the cafe near the house. Once there, we got out and ordered our drinks, gripping each other's hands tightly as he moved towards the handoff plane. As we waited I chewed my thumbnail, staring at Reid's abnormally blank face. "You good?" I asked.
He turned to face me, narrowing his eyes for a quick second as he registered my words. When he did, he nodded his head, flashing me a tight lipped smile.
"Because I totally understand if you're not. Two kids is a big deal and obviously you only signed up for one so if it's okay if you wanna dip and pretend l-"
He pressed his lips against mine, running his thumb along my cheek as he steadied my face. The kiss itself was short and sweet, but immediately left me wanting more despite knowing how public we were.
"You couldn't get rid of me if you tried, Rafferty," he replied with a smirk.
I placed my hand on top of his and kissed him again. As I did, the barista called out my name, causing me to pull away and move towards the edge of the counter. I grabbed a pair of drinks, while Reid snuck in behind to grab the other one, placing his hand at the small of my back as we moved over to the condiment stand to grab our sugar.
"So, what's our plan of attack?" I asked as I poured everything in, watching closely as the white granules melted into the hot liquid. I reached for one the stir sticks and swirled it around, feeling my mouth water at the smell.
"Attack?" He questioned with a laugh.
I nodded. "Yeah, attack, like how are we doing this?"
"That's a pretty broad question, Isla." He reached for a couple of lids, handing one to me as he placed the other two on his and Luke's drinks.
"I know, but we haven't really talked about anything. I know we're busy with work and life, but with two of these on the way," I patted my stomach lightly, "things are only going to get more chaotic."
Both of us made our way out of the cafe in unison, sipping our drinks desperately as we hopped back into the car and got ready to go. Reid stuck his coffee in one of the cupholders, while he drove, occasionally reaching for it to take a sip when he was able to stop at a light. "We could move into my apartment," he suggested with a shrug. "It's not the biggest place in the world, but it'll do while you're still pregnant and give us time to sort things out once they arrive."
"I've never actually been to your place." I pointed out.
"Your's is nicer," he retorted.
"Then why don't we move into mine? Honestly, I was already planning on asking Luke anyway. You basically live there already anyway." I took a sip of my drink, eyeing him curiously as he let out a sigh.
"You sure he's okay with that?"
I scoffed. "Course he is. Luke's like the chillest dude on the planet. Plus, I'm pretty sure he's thinking about moving out anyway."
Reid raised his brow.
"I mean, okay, technically he hasn't decided yet, but his ex, Andy, suggested they move in together and we talked about it. He's not like, entirely set on the idea yet, but he's definitely thinking about it."
"I don't know," Reid sighed.
I leaned my elbow against the edge of the window, plopping my head into my palm as I let out a heavy breath. "Maybe we should just find our own place? I'm sure if I gave Luke enough notice he'd be fine with it."
"Is that what you want?"
I gave him a confused look. "What do you mean?"
He licked his bottom lip and averted his gaze. Almost immediately I saw his face start to redden, which made my confusion grown even more. "Are you sure that's what you want? I understand if you don't, I mean, honestly I really like the idea, but if you don't then that's cool too. We can totally figure something out..." As he rattled on I bit my lip, holding back a smile. "Maybe you can rent an apartment in my building? That way you're close, but still have your own space, you know?"
