After we finished up at the station Reid and I went back to the hotel. On our way, Morgan drove and grilled us about the proposal. Like usual, the fact that we'd kept things a secret didn't sit right with him and although he respected our privacy to a degree, he obviously wanted to know more than what we were letting on.
"I don't know what to tell you. He just asked me." I shrugged and hopped out of the car. Behind me, Reid got out of the backseat, immediately lacing his hand in mine as he wandered to the front of the building.
"No big show?" Morgan questioned, raising his brow at Reid. He moved towards the door and pulled it open, holding it in place for us to walk through.
"You know, despite what you may think, not all proposals have to be over the top," he stated, tightening his grip on my hand. He gave Morgan a thankful nod as we passed into the building.
"Maybe not for you two," Morgan replied with a smile, "you guys are boring."
I opened my mouth in fake offence, placing my hand on my chest. As I did, both of them let out a laugh. "Excuse me for appreciating the simplicity of things."
"There ain't nothing simple about your guys's relationship, believe me. It's as complicated as it gets."
"Was complicated," I corrected.
Morgan rolled his eyes and followed us towards the stairwell. Together the three of us walked to our floor. On the way up, Reid and Morgan talked about their weekend plans, while I struggled to keep up. I hadn't realized until now how much a pair of children growing inside your stomach weighed down on you and with each passing step it felt like I was being drenched; the space under my armpits pooling with sweat. I gripped tightly onto Reid's hand and motioned him to slow down, earning myself a look of worry before he inevitably did as I asked.
By the time we got to our door I was breathing so heavily I could barely say goodbye to Morgan. He gave me a hug and told us he'd see us in a few days, while I merely gave him a nod and a wave, watching as he retreated to his bedroom.
"Are you okay?" Reid asked with a laugh, resting his hand on my back.
"Being fat is hard," I replied, gripping my stomach.
He leaned over and planted a kiss on the side of my face, giving my back a quick rub before fishing out his room key and opening the door. He filed in behind me and moved to the mini fridge. Without saying a word he grabbed me a bottle of water. "I wouldn't necessarily classify you as fat," he retorted.
I moved to sit on the bed, letting out a heavy sigh as I made contact with the mattress. As he spoke, Reid moved to the space next to me and handed the bottle over. I smiled in response and rubbed his leg, playing with the fabric of his slacks. "Yeah, well, that's because you think I'm pretty."
"You are pretty," he immediately replied.
"Pretty fat," I joked. After that I opened the bottle and took a sip, wiggling my brows in his direction.
He snorted and shook his head, taking a moment to look at my face before eventually turning his attention towards the door. "I'm gonna go down and talk to the receptionist about extending our stay. Want anything while I'm down there?"
I shook my head and sipped my water, watching as he gave me one last back rub before moving to his feet and wandering to the door.
After he left I moved to lie down, feeling the emotional weight of the last few days take over my body. With a groan, I palmed my eyes and let out a yawn, feeling the sudden urge to sleep.
The second I closed my eyes I felt my mind begin to wander. It wasn't like me to feel so exhausted all the time, so the constant fatigue I'd been experiencing lately was definitely a cause for concern. Deep down, I figured it was mostly due to the fact that I was literally creating life. However, a part of me was also aware that the amount of stress I'd been under was probably another factor. Having the love of your life get kidnapped because of something you did was a pretty big stressor and while I knew Reid was fine, I wasn't sure if I'd be.
