Punch after punch gets landed on my face. I take a few steps back as I lose my balance, getting mildly stunned by the blows to the head.
Thank god I'm wearing headgear or else I would've been knocked out already. Another punch lands on my head.
"Jesus Guy! Is there something you want to talk about!" I say to my current training partner and childhood best friend.
"I'm just trying to prove that you won't be able to handle yourself once you leave," Guy says to me with a laugh.
With his words I swiftly sweep his legs up from underneath him, making him land on his back on the floor. I stand above him with a victorious look in my eyes.
"I'm pretty sure that proves that I am more than capable of handling myself" I laugh as I stretch out my arm to help him up. We both walk over to where our water bottles are and drink. If someone were to walk in on us right now they would think that we were stranded in the Sahara haven't had a drink in 3 months.
"Are you sure about this?" Guy asks me after having his thirst quenched.
"About what?" I ask back, pretending like I don't know what he is talking about.
"You know... leaving" Guy states with sadness in his eyes. Matching his sadness, I sigh.
"Look... this life...crime, I don't want to be part of it anymore- in fact, if I had the choice I would have never been a part of this family in the first place...but we don't get to choose what we are born into and now I have the opportunity to leave," I pause and look at my best friend in the eye, my partner in crime, my ride-or-die, my Ohana, "I have to take it,".
Guy then pulls me into a hug, the kind that screams love and affection, the kind that seals the memories that we made together forever. Before the floodgates in my eyes open I pull away from the his famous hug that could make all your worries melt away,
"Alright alright you sap, I don't leave until the end of the week" I say to him with a smile.
"I know, I just don't want us to grow a part, you know?" He shrugs
"Heyyy," I squeeze his shoulder "Every time you're in Hawaii I'll come visit"
Guy raises an eyebrow at me, already questioning my promise, "Really? You'll travel from where ever the hell you end up to meet me? in Hawaii?"
"Well, it's better than me travelling all the way to Indonesia, let's just hope I don't end up on the east coast- and you never know, I might actually get assigned to an office in Hawaii!" I reply to him with hope.
"Yeah, maybe" sighs Guy "alright, I'll see you tomorrow Yaz" He places his gym bag on his shoulder and starts to head out of the training room but not before he flicks my ear as we walks past me.
"G! Really? At your big age?" I shout at him as he walks away. His laughter is all I hear as he continues to walk, further and further away.

It's the end of the week, and boy did this week drag out. In between me spending the most time that I could with Guy, we completed our final assignment together and I had a meeting with the board at Lang Incorporated. (L.I.) to complete my resignation. The day after my meeting, Guy and I were assigned to escort a shipment of weapons that landed to us from Japan, we (including the weapons) managed to arrive at the offsite warehouse of L.I. without any problems. And yes, this offsite warehouse is where the shadier side of my family comes to life.
The day of my departure came 2 days after Guy and I handed over the weapons to the head of logistics at the warehouse. I am now sat at the dining table with Guy and his father, Ricki. After my parents death, I was next in line to become the head of the family business - both of them. I only agreed to take over L.I. because I refused to lead the dark side, so I appointed the next person in line to the throne, Ricki. He was like a brother to my father, an uncle to me, this made him the most suitable person to take care of the family.
"What's the update on the shipment that was sent out?" Guy asks his father who sat at the head of the table with us either side of him.
"Our friend at Honolulu airport confirmed to me this morning that they received the goods," he replies with a satisfied grin. He then turns his attention to me and raises his glass. "Cheers to you on your last day and all the work that you did on behalf of this family" Guy and I replicate his action.
"Cheers" we all say as we clink our glasses together.
"So," Ricki takes a swig if his drink "what is it you will be doing next again?"
"I'll be joining the FBI academy," I reply to my uncle. He chuckles at my answer.
"You know I don't understand, you say you want to leave this family because of all the weapons and the harm it does" Ricki takes another swig if his drink "and yet you plan to go into a profession that does the same thing?"
I sigh "We've been over this uncle, I'm not leaving the family, I'm leaving the business and this profession is different, no illegal activity" I emphasise the word illegal.
"Illegal is what made us-" Ricki's response gets cut off by Guy,
"As long as Yasmin is happy and safe, that's all that matters, right dad?" Guy nudges his father to which he responds by letting out an angry sigh and raises his glass once more.
I nod my head at Guy, silently thanking him for saving me from another lecture by my uncle about the roots of the family.
"I must head out now if I want to catch my flight," I say as I stand up from the table.
"Let me help with your bags," Guy offers.
"It's alright G, they're already in the car" I say as we walk towards the door.
Now outside on the doorstep of the house, I begin to say my goodbyes. I stand in front of Guy, whose eyes have already become glassy from the tears that are about to spill.
"I love you," is all he manages to say before wrapping me in one of his warm hugs.
"I intend on keeping my promise G," I whisper, any louder and I would've choked on the lump that has risen in the back of my throat.
"Ahem" Ricki clears his throat to signal that he does not have the patience to wait until me and Guy finally stop hugging. I chuckle as I step in front of uncle Ricki. He places his hands on my cheeks,
"You take care of yourself my child, if anyone causes you trouble you know who to call," he then pulls me into a hug.
"There won't be any trouble, you and father taught me how to be the best" I say as I hug him back.
"I'll call when I land" I say to both of them as I step back and look at them one last time. And with that I turn around and head towards the car that will take me to the airport.
Guy's POV
As I watch the car that carries the other half of me out of the gates of the compound, I turn to my father,
"I'm surprised you let her go that easy, you know given the nature of our work," I say, not sure as to whether Yasmin is well and truly free from this life.
"My boy, as the daughter of the people who built this empire, who gave this family a life, I think she is entitled to a get-out-of-jail-free card," Ricki explains to me as we walk back into the house, however, I fail to notice the sinister look in his eyes, a detail that might come back to bite- hard.
