9. Igniting flames and putting out old ones

Kamekona's restaurant, 6pm

After we ended the case, Steve, Jerry, Junior, Tani and I, went to Kamekona's new restaurant to have a thanksgiving dinner. Lou and his family were also there, it turns out the sibling rivalry between him and his brother was lit...literally. Lou didn't just roast the turkey like he said he would. He burnt the whole kitchen. On thanksgiving. Nothing like family right?
We were all gathered around several tables with drinks in our hands and food in our stomachs. Tani and Jerry were either sides of me and Steve was standing up in front of me, leaning on the bar's counter,

"Wait wait, so you and Danny, 2 people with no cooking skills let alone business skills, decided to open up a restaurant?!" I say, waving around the beer I had in my hand to emphasise my words.

"Okay I'll admit, we were way over our heads with this one," Steve's face turns a light shade of red from embarrassment, either that or the alcohol is burning through his system.

"Ha, I'll say," Kamekona, who was sat on a chair next to him, looks up at Steve, "Just be glad I was there to save your asses,"

"I'm also glad that you won't use this as an excuse for favours," Steve replies to him with a raised eyebrow

At his words Kamekona snaps his head back in Steve's direction, "Are you kidding me brah, I get a lifetime of favours for dis,"

We all laugh at his reaction and Steve smiles as he pats Kamekona's back with his free hand.

"I don't know why you're laughing Captain, the same goes to you for convincing me to hire your brother," Kamekona sends a serious look towards Lou's direction.

"Okaaaay, I think it's time to dance," Lou says as he puts his beer down on the table and gets up, dragging his wife with him.

I laugh and shake my head at the highly amusing dynamic between the team. I lean back on my chair and cross my right leg over my left as I watch Lou dancing with his wife. The joy on their faces is delicate but so full of love, looking at each other as if they were the only one in the room. I take a sip of my drink as my eyes then look to the two people dancing next to them, the Grover parents. They remind me of my own parents who used to dance in the living room, even in their old age and the many years they spent together, the love radiating from them hasn't faltered. I couldn't help but feel my stomach drop watching the two pairs ignore the world and find comfort in the person between their arms. I could have had that.

I'm taken away from my thoughts when Tani and Junior get up from their seats and stand in front of me,

"You joining us?" Junior asks as he holds his hand out.

I chuckle and reach my hand out, acting as if I was going to accept it but instead give him a low high-five,

"I'm a woman of many skills but dancing isn't one of them,"

"Oh please, you can't be worse than Junes," Tani makes a dig at Junior, trying to convince me to join them

"Erm Excuse me? Did you just challenge me to a dance battle?!" Junior looks at Tani with surprise

"I'm not sure it'll be a battle since I'm the better dancer!" she raises her eyebrow, challenging the former navy seal.

"Oh really, you're the better dancer..." Junior and Tani make their way to the dance floor, trash-talking each other the whole time until they actually started busting their moves. Terrible, Terrible moves may I add.

"Like they're already married huh?" Steve joins me, taking the seat that Tani was sat in

I let out a little chuckle and turned to face him, "I would've said high school kids on the playground but sure, married couple also works,"
