Honolulu Harbor, Pier 29, 1 am
I look over at Guy and he nods his head at me, indicating that he was ready for what we were about to do. With no hesitation, I nod back and we both step out into the clearing with our guns in the air. One by one, people from both sides lowered their weapons until the gunfire came to a halt.
Making my way over to a very pissed looking Anderson, I lower the gun down by my side again.
"Are you out of your mind!?" He barks at me once he steps out from the car he was using as cover
"Look, this was the best way, you would have ran out of bullets before you got anywhere near them," I say
"Or all those bullets would have found a home in you- My god I wish they did!"
"We got the Comescus," I say when I notice Adam and Steve walking our way, the SWAT agents in tow with prisoners in their hands, "Guy is over there talking some sense into Ricki's men, hopefully they'll give up his location,"
"Oh yeah, how do you think thats going to go-"
"No!" Guy suddenly cries out
I snap my head around to see what was happening and as soon as I do, Steve shouts out my name, making me shifting my attention to him. It all happened in a short space of time; I see him pull out his gun, I hear two shots ring out and I feel the whizz of a bullet as it rushes past my head.
With my eyes wide, I turn back around in the direction the bullet went in. From what I could make out amongst the blinding lights, I see my uncle's limping figure retreat into the lineup of cars. Seeing that it was him who got hit, my shoulders drop, releasing the tension from them. Then I lower my eyes at the body that seemed to be falling in slow motion, until it hit the floor with a thud. My breath hitched in my chest at the eerily similar scene that played out in front of me.
The odds of this happening again were astronomical, this was supposed to be different. Running as if my feet had a mind of its own, I tick off the ways in which the situations were not identical.
My parents were closing a deal. We were trying to stop one from happening. It was different. My parents haven't personally handed over a shipment ever since I was born. We would do it together all the time. I wasn't with my parents when it happened because I was here celebrating Guy's birthday. Things would have turned out differently if I had been there. Yet here I was, just a mere 3 metres away when it happened again.
The tiny rocks in the concrete dig into my knees when I drop to the floor. My eyes dry from not blinking, afraid that if I do then he would vanish. I reach out in front of me but quickly retract when the material of his t-shirt grazes my hand, terrified that if I touch him then it would all be too real. So, I just sit there staring at the face that brought me so much joy, but this time, it was different. It wasn't like the times where I would wait for him to wake up and make breakfast; Or the times where he would wake me up to say he made pancakes at 3 in the morning; It wasn't like the time where I drew all kinds of explicit stuff on his face because he passed out on the couch, not being able to handle his alcohol like he claimed he could. No, this time I watched as crimson liquid escaped out of his body, creating a pool that no one would dream to swim in,
"Guy," I say in a barely audible whisper.
He doesn't move. I try again but a little louder this time,
"Guy,"
I expected his eyelids to flutter open. I expected him to say something goofy. His eyes were glued shut and his lips were slightly parted, I wasn't even sure if air was passing through them. My body shakes, wanting to let out the sob that was building in the back of my throat.
"G...don't do this," I whimper when I put my hand on his chest, gently nudging him.
Deep emotions stir within my stomach with no other outlet except through the long-lasting sobs that escape from me.
"Guy!" I let out a long wail.
The bullets were soon being shot above us once again, but i didn't care anymore. In fact, I was hoping that I would get hit.
"Ple-please," My breath shudders as I exhale, "You're all I've got left,"
Air rushes into my lungs before it get pushed out again in the form of a loud, piercing cry. The large volume of tears flowing down my cheeks blocking my vision.
"Don't leave me," I lay my head on his chest, squeezing my eyes shut, not wanting to let him go
Getting lost in the warmth that was still radiating from his body, I feel someone grab hold of my shoulder. Lifting my head up, I get disheartened when I see that the hand belonged to Steve and not Guy.
"We have to go!" He shouts over the increased sound of gunfire, the team covering him so that he could safely get to me.
"I'm not going anywhere!" I say, turning back to the body that was splayed out next to me.
I gently run my hand through his matted down hair, making it fluffy again. Another wave of tears drip off of my chin as I remember how long he would spend in front of a mirror, trying to make his hair sit right.
"Yasmin, come on!" Steve gently tugs me by the shoulder
I ignore him, hoping he gets the message to leave me the hell alone. He didn't.
All of a sudden he wraps his arms around my waist and picks me up
"Let me go!" I grunt. He carries on.
"Stop!" I start to thrash around like a fish out of water when I see how far he has taken me away from Guy, "you killed him!"
"It wasn't me!" He says but I don't hear him
Giving up hope that my kicks would free me from his cage, I elbow him on the side of his head, causing him to make the mistake of loosening his grip. I break out from his hold, however the freedom is short lived when he grabs my arm, jerking my body back from the force.
"It wasn't me," Steve says when I face him.
"Fall back!"
The sound of a helicopter whirrs in the sky. I look up, seeing that it was a little too close to the ground for comfort.
"Grenade!" Steve shouts as loud as he could when he sees what I see
A little round object gets dropped from the aircraft, hurtling it's way down towards us.
"No!" I say when I realise the vulnerable body that lay exposed
"He's gone!" Steve holds me back and looks me in the eyes. Not allowing me to react, he pulls my arm along with him as he runs for cover.
The first thing I felt was the fiery heat that engulfed us, followed by the burst of energy that sent us hurtling towards the side of a police car.
