season eight, episode twenty three

❝ shut up, i'm emotional!

There should be a famous saying about how doctors liked to celebrate, because oh boy they knew how to throw a party.

It was safe to say that Meredith's house had descended into pure chaos ever since they found out the results of the boards nineteen hours ago.

It was worse than Aliya's twenty eight birthday party that ended in a power outage caused by a bottle of spilt beer, a lively game of beer pong that resulted in a broken window and a trip to the emergency room when Alex found a shard of glass in his foot.

Though, luckily no windows had been broken, the light bulbs were still shining brightly above them and nobody had made it to the emergency room.

Yet.

Aliya's money was on April, who had enough alcohol in her system to make a whole army drunk off their faces.

However, Aliya who was unable to consume any alcohol for obvious reasons and had used the opportunity of her phone ringing from the coffee table to excuse herself from dancing in Meredith's packed living room for a moment. "Hello, this is Aliya Levine."

It was only when she actually stopped jumping up and down to the music when she realised her ankles were throbbing.

Which made seeking refuge to the kitchen really difficult.

"Aliya!" The deep, low voice came through the speaker, and Aliya had to close a palm over her other ear so she could hear who was on the other line. "This is Mike Stevenson from Harvard. Congratulations on passing your boards."

"Thank you!" Aliya grinned as she stepped into the kitchen, grabbing a soda from the refrigerator and pouring it into a glass to throw prying eyes off of her tracks.

It was inevitable that her fellow residents who she hadn't told about her pregnancy would start to pick up on the fact that she wasn't drinking alcohol.

But, she was counting on the fact they were all way too drunk to even notice.

"I heard word from your examiners." Mike continued on, getting to the basis of why he had called. Those six words seemed to flip Aliya's stomach over, because surely her examiners hadn't thought she a nutcase, right? And, spread the word to all of the fellowships that Aliya Levine had gone off the rails. But, that was a worse case scenario, Aliya had hoped. "You really wiped the floor, you should be proud."
