PIRATE!FEMALE READER FLUFF

(Art is not mine cred to blueaurorius on twitter)

----------

My family had always told me stories of mystical creatures in the sea, the Kracken, sirens, sharks the size of warships, and the one story I loved the most, the ones about mermaids. I was so dedicated to finding a mermaid, I swore to myself I would become a Pirate just to find one. If anyone else in my small town heard me say that I would have been laughed at mercilessly. But 15 years later, here I am standing on the bow of my own ship.

"Captain (L/n)! There are a fleet of British military ships to the East! What are your orders?" I turned to my First mate, a smile bigger than his own on my face.

"How many?"

"Roughly 5, Cap'n."

I let out a laugh and ran up to the wheel. "Alright you lot!" I shouted from where I stood, my hair getting whipped from the wind. "Are you ready for today's haul?!" A courus of cheers erupted from the deck as swords and spirits were raised. "Good! 5 ships to the east say we'll have a feast! Steal your nerves 'cause they're comin' in quick!" I turned the wheel, trusting my rudder to keep me steady. Shouts from starboard alerted me to the ships realizing who we were.

"The Black Rose is unsinkable! Right, men?!" The crew knocked twice in sync before shouting "AYE!" in response. Everyone ran to their stations and got ready to go to battle as the ships began firing at us.

Tired and sweaty, we cheered. "We've done it again boys! Tonight, we party!" My white poet's shirt stained in blood and dirt stuck to my skin as (b/f/n) tapped my shoulder. "Hmm?"

"You might want to come see this." I nodded as he led me to the Captain's Quarters, he opened one of the chests that were on the fleet ships and the necklace immediately caught my eye.

"That is a beaut, that's for sure," I mumbled as I gently picked it up. The gold was formed into a starfish, but it had vines of seaweed made of emeralds and ruby coral embedded in the piece. "Why did you pull me away for it, though?" I looked up at him as he looked at me with wide eyes.

"No one else can touch it without some form of consequence. I went a little numb, (R/n) fainted, and Jaque got burnt." My eyes slowly widened, looking back down at it.

"Well, I guess we have a stop to make."

"Y-you don't mean-"

"In the morning, we're off to see the Seer."

The ship slowly made it to the small island in the middle of the Atlantic, just outside of the Bermuda Triangle. No one but I dared step foot on the island, afraid of being cursed by the three sole inhabitants.

"Ah, (Y/n). It's been some time hasn't it." A young woman walked out from behind the sorely out of place oak tree.

"Yes it has. My apologies for not writing, but no one seems to go within 500 knots of here." I bowed lightly before looking up at her again. "I have come with a question about a necklace that has come into my possession, but I'm sure you knew that."

She chuckled, nodding. "You know me too well, (Y/n). Now let me see this necklace." I pulled it out of my shirt, slightly mesmerised by the way it glinted in the sun, but I soon looked away from it towards the sound of a loud gasp.

"Sister, do you know what this is?" I asked, startled by her immediate response.

"A mermaid has chosen you! That's a mermaid necklace, and they only allow the chosen human to touch it!" I laughed at my little sister's enthusiasm before looking back to my mother.

"She's right. And while I want to convince you to stay, I know, especially now, that you won't." I nodded and hugged her, before walking over to my little sister and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"Tell Gran I said hi, I'm guessing she's in one of her sleep spells." She nodded and I smiled. "Off I go then, I'll try my best to stop again before the Winter solstice." I made my way back onto the ship only to be met with a look of wonder from (b/f/n).

"I still don't understand how you're related to them. Anyway, is it cursed?"

I laughed and shook my head. "No, it's actually brought me hope for my original goal."

He gasped. "Mermaid?!"

"Mermaid," I said with a small smile.

He jumped up and shouted, "Mermaids!" The crew just looked at him in confusion and swiftly turned to me as I laughed with joy .

A moment of confused silence rippled through the crew before it set in. We were on the hunt for the mermaid that gifted this necklace so gracefully to me. "MERMAIDS!" was shouted and rippled through the crowd  before the ship was readied for sailing again.

Over the next few weeks, I slept in the dingy hoping for any sign of the mystery mermaid that managed to slip this necklace into my room. On one particular night while we were next to a rocky cliff side, I saw a shimmery tail of gold and teal. My heart speeding in my chest, I dropped the dingy down to the water and quietly paddled up to the small isle in the middle of a nearby cove.

I quietly hoped they would swim up and say hello, hoping they knew their necklace and would swim up to sweep me off my feet. But as time dragged on, nothing happened. I sat on the small rocks, and waited. Soon the sun rose up lazily, painting the sky a beautiful pink and orange. I was humming a short song while I enjoyed the blooming of the morning sky when I heard a small splash behind me.

I whipped around and I saw them. Her eyes sparkled in the early light and the pinks highlighted her cheeks, her blue and black hair stuck to her shoulders and neck. She was breathtaking. Her blue eyes stared into my (e/c) ones, seemingly lost in them as I was lost in hers.

She inched herself closer to me until our faces were only inches away from each other when she finally spoke in a voice so enchanting I almost didn't understand her.

"I've finally found you."

My heart skipped a beat as I looked down at the necklace I hadn't taken off since it came into my possession, seeing it rest on my chest binding. "So you're the one that sent me this?" She nodded, her hand resting on my cheek as she brought me closer, now only a breath away from my lips.

"Since you are wearing it, I'll take it that you accept me as you significant other?"

I turned red, but carefully nodded as I tried not to get any closer to her. She smiled and her eyes lit up, finally closing the gap between us, her soft lips pressing against my chapped ones. My hands slowly found her waist and pulled her closer, as she laughed into the kiss.

"I've spent years looking for you, my lovely human."

"Years?" I asked, largely surprised she went through so much toil to find me.

"Yes, I felt you the moment you touched the ocean and so my father gave me the necklace that found him my mother."

"What is your name? So I know what to call you other than absolutely stunning." A dark pink dashed across her face as she looked down.

"You think I'm stunning?" I nodded, gently bringing her face back up to mine. "I'm Jolyne, but I don't think I look like much. I was the ugly duckling, too long and too brash."

"Well, I think your length is just perfect, and I'm a pirate captain. I don't think you'll be more brash than me." Her eyes widened and her tail flapped lightly against the rocks before she flopped on top of me and kissed all over my face.

I laughed and grabbed her hand, kissing it lightly as I spoke. "Would you want to meet my crew? Plus, I have a ring to find."
