Chapter 13

Alexa woke up suddenly as a scent drifted through the breeze and into the room. It was one she recognised it made her both scared and angry. Scared that she might lose her new pack and angry that she was the cause of this danger.

Turning around in Gabriel's arms Alexa shook him until he blinked down at her. His face held a content smile as he let out a purr as their scent mingled in the room.

"What's wrong," Gabriel asked as he saw the worried look on Alexa's face.

"They're coming for me," Alexa said nervousness in her voice as the scent got stronger. 

"Are you sure" Gabriel demanded now fully awake, his protective instincts kicking in.

"Their scent is being carried by the wind I'd say they are about a mile away from the territory" Alexa replied keeping her voice calm so that Gabriel wouldn't panic further. 

"That means we have time to wake everyone before they get here and put the pups and pregnant mothers in the safe house under the orphanage," Gabriel said as he got out of bed and pulled a pair of trousers on.

"Alright I'll get the mothers and the pups you get the safe house, can you wake everyone else who can fight," Alexa said as she pulled Gabriel's shirt and boxers over her head in case she needed to shift quickly.

"Sounds like a plan" Gabriel agreed walking over to Alexa, placing a kiss her on the head before leaving their room.

Alexa left the room just as Lindsey walked out of hers. The gamma female said hello before she went to wake up the other warriors. Alexa gathered the four pregnant females and led them from the packhouse to the orphanage.

"Mary I'm on my way open the door for us" Alexa spoke into Mary's mind as the building came into view.

"Of course alpha" The older woman responded straight away.

Her quick response worried Alexa as the omega had sounded upset. Knocking on the door Mary answered almost imediatly and Alexa scented the sadness from her. Her eyes were red and puffy and sadness and pain were thick in her scent. 

"Come in quickly we can move the pups while they are sleeping," Mary said stepping aside to let the five other women in. 

As the pregnant she-wolves went to do as Mary asked, Alexa grabbed the omega by the arm when she was about to help them. Her friend and pack mate was hurting and she wanted to know why. 

"Mary are you ok," Alexa asked her wolf whining as her pack member was in pain. 

"I'll be fine dear thank you for asking" Mary replied offering a smile which didn't reach her eyes. 

"That's not an answer Mary your in pain and I want to help you" Alexa spoke as the other woman tried to walk away again. 

"I was thinking of my mate and the time we had before he died" Mary sighed running her hand over her shoulder where her mate's mark once lay. 

"I'm sorry" Alexa whispered her wolf whimpering as one of her pack members was in pain and hurting. 

"It..." Mary started only to be cut off as a howl broke the silence of the dark forest. 

"Get to the safe house and lock the door, do not answer to anyone except me or Gabriel" Alexa ordered ushering Mary inside before turning around and shifting into her wolf. 

"Be safe out there Alexa, I don't want to lose my friend and alpha female" Mary whimpered before she closed the door. 

Once Alexa heard the locks click on the safehouse door, she tracked the scent of the invading rouges who were now locked in battle with her pack mates. Assessing the scene Alexa imediatly spotted Gabriel's black wolf fighting three rouges at once. 

Though this seemed to be only a small number of rouges as if they were sent ahead to the frontlines. Snarling when a brown rouge wolf barreled into her Alexa snapped her jaws around his tail. Giving it a yank Alexa made him fall over. Wrapping her jaws around his throat Alexa ripped his oesophagus out spraying her already red fur with blood. 

Looking away from the rouge Alexa jumped into the fray as a grey rouge tried to sneak up on Cory. The beta was doing well at fighting the two rouges in front of him though he had left an opening. jumping to meet the rouge head-on Alexa wheezed as they crashed to the ground.

Alexa whimpered as the wolf managed to bite into her shoulder. Growling in rage she stomped on his balls as he was belly up under her. The pain caused him to let off her shoulder with a whine. Using his distraction as an opening Alexa went for the throat. Severing his jugular Alexa stepped away from him growling in pain as a rouge bit into her flank. 

As Alexa was about to attack him she saw Lindsey's sandy wolf pounce on him. The gamma female and the rouge fought in a clash of snapping teeth and claws before Lindsey stood victorious over the rouge. 

Giving a nod to her gamma Alexa went to find her mate as the rest of the pack subdued the rest of the rouges. Gabriel was facing off against a dark grey wolf that was limping heavily but still it looked like he could fight. 

Running over Alexa was about to jump forward to help her mate when the rouge suddenly shifted back to his human form. Skidding to a halt next to her mate she bared her teeth at the rouge. 

"Ah so you're who the little boss is after, he's not here yet it will take another day before he gets here. He's gathering more wolves to fight for his cause" The rouge spat as Gabriel snarled at him. 

"What does he want from me" Alexa snarled as she shifted to her human form. 

"You killed his father, he has no mate, he wants you to produce offspring for him and then he will kill you" The rouge sneered eying Alexa with distaste. 

His last sentence was his last mistake Alexa thought as Gabriel tore into the man. How dare that rouge threaten her, she was Gabriel's mate as he was hers and it would be a cold day in hell before she submitted to anyone but her mate. Her alpha male and her love.

As Gabriel jumped away from the rouge Alexa watched as he approached her, shifting back into a man as he reached her. Alexa breathed him in as they stood in an embrace, the backdrop of the battlefield filled with bodies as they made sure each other was okay. 

"I love you Gabriel" Alexa spoke kissing his jaw. 

"I love you too Alexa" Gabriel replied a deep rumble spreading through his chest. 

"Alpha's we need reinforcements if this was only the first wave. Many of our warriors are injured and I do not know if they can heal fast enough for the next battle" Cory said as he came running over having watched his alphas dispatch the last of the rouges. 

"We can ask my birth pack, Frostfang" Alexa Offered, chuckling as both her mate and Cory looked at her with mouths agape. 

She had not gone into that much detail about her family but she was sure they would help and her talk with Elena had her missing her dads and her uncle and the rest of them. 

"Yes but first we have to get some rest, let the women and pups know it's safe and get this mess cleaned" Gabriel spoke as his eyes spotted the bite marks on Alexa's side and shoulder. 

"Yes alpha" Cory responded before going to do as his alpha male bid. 

"I have to tell Mary its okay" Alexa whispered her adrenaline wearing off and the pain of her injuries hitting her full force. 

"I can tell her through the mind link, you get some rest you were a ball of fighting force tonight. 

Smiling up at her mate Alexa felt her eyes droop closed and she was in a state of fitfull sleep. Her wolf healing the injuries as best she could.
