Rose's POV:
When I woke up the next morning there were four very unhappy faces staring down at me. I cringed and sat up against my headboard. Their glares could melt the ocean if it was frozen solid."Look-" I started, but I didn't get a chance to finish.
"Where the heck were you last night?" Isabelle demanded.
"Yeah! You completely ditched us!" Kyra sounded on the verge of tears. It made me feel terrible.
"You know how we usually all talk and laugh for hours the first night back? How we gossip and talk about our summers? Well, we did all that without you. Because obviously you had somewhere better to be than with your best friends!" Savannah yelled. Then she stormed out of the room and slammed the door. We could hear her stomp down the stairs and yell at someone to get out of her way. Savannah was famous for her attitude.
I hesitantly looked back at my friends who were still glaring at me, waiting for answers. I took a deep breath before I started.
"Look, I didn't know I was gone that long. After the feast I went up to the head table to ask Professor McGonagal about a question that I missed on my Transfiguration O.W.L. Then I..."
"You what, Rose?" demanded Kyra.
"I was talking to Scorpius Malfoy," I said quietly. They stared at me. It was like they were frozen in place. They stood they with open mouths for what seemed like ages. Finally I couldn't stand the silence and the stares any longer.
"What's the big deal? I was just talking to him! That's all!"
"About what exactly?" asked Isabelle, raising an eyebrow. What should I say? 'Oh you know, the usual. We are best friends! I also really like him!' What? Where did that thought come from? Well, I don't like him. Do I?
"Rose!" yelled Kacey, snapping a finger in my face. I realized I had zoned out, distracted by my thoughts of possibly liking Scorpius. I don't know how I'm going to get out of this. I have to tell them. How did I even consider keeping a secret from my friends? I should've known they would find out sooner or later. They always do.
"Well, on the train, Scorpius came into my compartment. Everyone else was sleeping but I was reading a book. He came in and I told him to get out but he stayed. He stayed and apologized for torturing and teasing me since first year."
"How can you be sure he really meant it? Maybe it's a trap," said Isabelle.
"What would he be trying to trap me for? I know he really meant the apology. He sounded and looked genuinely sorry."
"You didn't actually forgive him did you?" asked Kacey with a look of complete shock on her face. "Rose, you've hated him since the first time you laid eyes on him. He was terrible to you! And you just forgive him all of the sudden? Of all the things you have grudges over you choose this one to let go? And if anyone can hold grudges it's you. I know from experience that you can."
"Yes I forgave him. I realized that I never really got to know him. He really is kind and gentle under his cruel vibe."
"Yes, but wouldn't you think being friends with a Slytherin is bad enough? Let alone Scorpius Malfoy," said Kyra exasperated.
"That's what I don't get. We can be friends with a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw but its a crime to be friends with a Slytherin. Maybe they aren't all that bad. I've made my decision on Scorpius and its final. If anyone else has a problem with Scorpius I'll be in the great hall," I said. Then I got up and went to my trunk and pulled out my robes and gryffindor tie. I slipped them on over my pajamas and pulled back my tangled hair into a ponytail. I grabbed my bag and stormed out of the dormitory without looking back.
