Scorpius's POV
"What's wrong Scorp?" asked my best friend, Blake Goyle. "You've been distracted since we got on the train."
"I'm fine. Just thinking." I couldn't get Rose out of my head. She is just so beautiful. I loved her long, red hair and freckles that dusted her nose and cheeks. I started liking her at the end of last year, when I saw her smile. Whenever she was around me she never smiled because I always torment her and tease her. I always have. I don't even know why. It doesn't even feel right. I guess, deep down I have always liked her, but I just wouldn't let myself believe it. I do now. But how can she like me? I was horrible to her for years. She will never forgive me.
"Are you sure, mate? You look like something is bothering you," Blake asked. I knew he was just being a good friend, but he was getting on my nerves.
"I said I was fine, Blake! I need to walk around a bit," I said. With that, I got up and left the compartment, leaving Blake with a hurt look on his face. I felt bad, but I needed to be alone for a while.
I wandered down the train for a while, not sure where I was going. After a while I figured out what I was doing: looking for Rose. A little bit later I found her in a compartment with James, Albus, Lily, Hugo, and Danny Finnigan. Great. He was here. James' head was on Rose's shoulder and he was fast asleep. Lily had her head in Hugo's lap and they were both asleep to. Danny had his head against the window and Albus was laying on the bench, both asleep. Rose was the only one awake. Perfect.
I slid open the compartment door and peeked my head in.
"What do you want, Malfoy," Rose said looked up from her book and glaring at me. I hated how she said my name, with so much bitterness and hatred. It made me feel awful and less confident. Before I could say anything else, she spoke again.
"Why did you smile at me earlier?" She said, all the bitterness and hatred from earlier gone.
"I... um.... I..." I stuttered, all the confidence from earlier, gone. She raised her eyebrows. Why did I have to make a fool of myself?
"Well? Why did you?" she asked again. I sighed.
"I'm sorry, Rose. For everything that I have said and done to you since first year. I only did that stuff because I was jealous. I was jealous of you and your family and all the fame and how everyone loves you. I'm known as the son of a cowardly Death Eater that was set free, and I'm ashamed of him and that I am his son. I'm sorry." Rose stared at me. It made me feel uncomfortable. I shifted from one foot to the other until the silence became to much for me.
"I'm sorry," I turned around to leave, but before I could, she spoke.
"You called me Rose," she said. "Why?" I smiled a little.
"Well, what's the point in having a first name if you're not called by it? It's to beautiful of a name not to use."
"Thank you... Scorpius," she said giving me a smile. The smile I fell in love with. I gave her a smile back.
"Do you think we could be friends? We don't have to we could just-"
"I'd love to. Since I know the real Scorpius now... I kinda like him," she said, giving me another one of those beautiful smiles.
"I'm glad," I returned the smile, relieved. "We don't have to act like friends around the others if you don't want. I doubt they would approve."
"That's probably a good idea. Albus and James would go crazy... I'm sorry we have to keep this a secret," she said.
"It's ok. At least we're friends," I gave her a small smile. "I can't imagine what they would do if they knew. I know they hate me," I said. Just then James let out a loud snore and Rose laughed. When she laughed, James head slipped off her shoulder and he jerked awake.
"What are you doing here, Malfoy?" said James as soon as he saw me, hatred dripping from his voice. He nudged Albus's foot and he jerked awake to.
"What do you want?" asked Albus sleepily.
"Nothing. I was just pestering R-Weasley. I was just leaving. Why would I want to hang out with blood-traitors like you anyway?" I said. By now Danny, Hugo, and Lily were awake.
"Get out, Malfoy," said Lily coldly.
"I said I was leaving. Goodbye, Weasley," I said to Rose. With that I turned and walked out and slid the compartment door shut. When everyone wasn't looking, I snuck a wink at Rose, and she giggled softly.
As I walked back to my compartment and Blake, I was smiling. I was truly happy.
I was friends with Rose Weasley.
