Christmas Time

Scott and I's family may live in the same small town in Texas, but we won't be spending Christmas together. We decided a few weeks ago that since we spend literally all our time together, we should just have a few days away and be with our families. At first I was happy with the decision, it would only be a few days, right? And we really do spend so much time together, not that I mind of course. It would be good for not only us, but for the band as well.

But now it's Christmas Eve night, and I'm up, alone, curled in my blanket watching Polar Express and drinking our Peppermint Hot Chocolate Holiday Supreme. I like my drinks strong, but boy did I make this extra strong, figuring it might ease my feeling of loneliness right now. Don't get me wrong, I'm so unbelieveably happy to be here, at home, with my family. Not to mention having a few days off from our hectic schedules. But I sure am missing my other half. This is our first Christmas "together," and we won't actually be together for it. The thought made my heart ache just a little more. I was jolted from my thoughts by my phone vibrating. Of course it's Scott calling.

"Hey!"

"Well hello to you too. Someone sounds excited." He cuckled.

"I just miss you. That's all."

"We've literally been apart for 2 days, and we're twenty minutes from eachother right now. You can't possibly miss me that much."

"Oh, but I do. I'm drinking alone, watching Polar Express. I wish you were here so I could cuddle with you."

"I wish I was there too love. I would cuddle you so hard right now."

That got a good laugh out of me. "You are such a dork."

"But I got to hear that adorable laugh of yours that I love, so it's worth sounding like a major dork."

"Are you sure you're not the one drinking here? You're being awfully sentimental."

"Perfectly sober dear. You know my parents never keep alcohol in the house."

"How boring."

"You're telling me. Hey Mitchie?"

"Yeah?"

"It's midnight. I just want to be the first one to tell you Merry Christmas love."

"Scott. Stop being so cute. Merry Christmas to you too. I love you."

"I love you too. Sleep tight. I'll see you soon."

"Goodnight Scott."

The next morning I was rudely awoken nice and early by my niece jumping up and down on my bed.

"Uncle Mitchie wake up! Wake up! Santa came and there's a really big present for you!"

"Okay, okay sweetie. I'll be out in a few."

She jumped off the bed running out the door screaming to everyone that I would be out soon. I chuckled at her as I slowly got out of bed. Everyone knows I am not human until I have at least one cup of coffee, and at this ungodly hour, I may need two. I was on my way to the kitchen wrapped in my blanket when I heard my niece screaming at me again.

"No Uncle Mitchie! You have to come in here first. You have to see what Santa brought you!"

"Ugh, fine. I'll get my coffee later. But no complaining about me being grumpy. You know how I am without my caffeine."

I made my way over to the living room where the Christmas tree was and where my family were already gathered. And there, sitting directly in front of the tree with a big red bow on his head was my Scott.

"Scott!"

He jumped up as I ran to him and him to me. I jumped in his arms, wrapping my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. He stumbled back a bit as he wrapped his strong arms that I adore around my waist. He spun around in circles as we both giggled to ourselves.

"I missed you," I whispered into his neck.

"I missed you too baby. Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas Scott."

And then we shared a kiss under the mistletoe, which is like the most cliche thing a couple could do at Christmas, and I loved every second of it. I wouldn't have wanted to spend my Christmas any other way. I was surrounded by the people I love most, and that, is the best Christmas gift I could ever receive.
