courtney's pov -
"Court?" Shayne mumbled quietly, placing a hand on my arm and kneading my shoulder.
"Hm?" I grumbled as I stretched. I didn't realize I had fallen asleep on the couch. Shayne must've moved in the night, his body pressed against my back. Just like last night at his apartment.
"You awake?" He moved an arm slightly and the back of my head nestled further into his neck.
"What time is it?" My question came out more like a whine. I could barely open my eyes as I searched for a clock in the house. I noted the glass door leading out to the deck was now closed, the curtains drawn shut, the lights under the kitchen cabinets turned off. I smiled to myself.
"Just about four." He propped himself up on his elbow and smoothed my hair with his free hand. He swung a leg over my body and moved a hand under my hips so I lay flat on the couch. I wasn't able to register the intimacy of this moment, but I felt it. I felt his warm touch, I felt his chest close to mine, I felt his legs bracing mine. This feels good. "Let's move, yeah?"
It wasn't exactly a question. I knew that he thought we were starting to outgrow the couch, but I also know that Shayne would never overstep any lines.
"Okay." I quietly agreed. I nodded into the couch as I flexed my legs again.
I felt Shayne's hands reach around my back, gently lifting me up to sit. I took the hint and wrapped my arms weakly around his neck, pulling myself closer to him. My nose ended up near his collarbone as I tucked my face into his chest. He placed his feet on the carpeted floor and knelt just a bit, adjusting his hold on my body.
He slowly counted down from three and hoisted me up into his grip. I dangled my legs behind his body as he placed a hand below my butt, and one around my back, keeping me anchored to his chest. He walked into the master bedroom, skillfully flipping a triangle of the covers over while holding me.
"I'm going to set you on the bed, alright?" He whispered into my ear. I nodded, the motion was conformation. He placed me on the bed to sit, my toes hovering just above the wooden floor. Shayne held a hand on my side for a beat to steady me, I kept my grip on his forearm as he pulled away. I still need you.
He smiled in the moonlight and placed a light kiss on my lips. I grinned at the sweetness.
"Hands up, okay?" He said softly. His voice barely above a whisper. I did as I was told and held my arms above my head. Shayne stood up and slid the sweatshirt off my body and folded it as he placed it on the closest dresser behind him. He turned back to me and kneeled on the floor, taking off my shoes and my socks, placing them neatly under the nightstand on my side of the bed. Leaving me in his shirt and my shorts.
He moved back to the bed, walking over to the other side and he flipped over the covers. Opening up the bed.
He walked slowly back over to me. I still sat there, too tired to move any bone in my body. He bent his legs just a bit to even his eyes with mine. He held out an arm across my back and the other hovered near my knees.
"Is it okay to touch?" His voice filled with such gentleness.
"Yes, baby." I formed a real answer. "It's okay to touch." I laid my head in the crook of his neck as he moved a hand under my knees and leaned me back into the hand across my spine.
He laid me down on the bed, moving my head from his chest to the pillow with delicacy. Once I was situated, he brought the comforter over my shoulders, I heard him chuckle as I flipped on my side and drew the fabric tight under my chin.
I heard his take a few paces to the other side of the bed. Feeling the weight on the bed shift, I relaxed.
He moved close to me, and I felt him hesitate. I want you to come closer. Without a second thought, I moved to snuggle my back into his chest. He hummed, but it wasn't the reaction I wanted. So I flipped myself over to face him. Our noses inches from each other. This felt different than any other time we've done this. This felt closer. Like it means more.
"I'll do it." I said quietly as I pressed a small kiss on the corner of his mouth. My tired eyes misjudged the placement of his lips.
"Do what?" Shayne asked. He moved closer to me, slotting a leg in between mine.
"I'll fall with you." I looked up at him. Happiness pooled in his blue eyes. He smiled. And I moved into his chest, feeling one of his hands trace lines up and down my back.
"Good night, babe." He said. And I slowly drifted into a deep sleep. Feeling completely at home in Shayne's arms.
