shayne's pov -
A few hours later we were settled in our room. Finally, a quiet space. I pulled up a chair right next to Courtney's bed. Her bump concealed by blue and white patterned sheets. She was already hooked up to monitors, and her steady heartbeat filled the room.
"How are you feeling?" I asked her. My hands on the railing of the bed.
She laughed, pulling her knees up a bit.
"Hurts like a bitch. Just want to get it over with."
"I know, Court, I know." I took a breath. "I can't wait to meet the little dude"
"What if it's a girl?" Courtney asked, eyes pooling with sudden concern.
I laid a gentle hand on her arm, careful of the tubes. "Then I will love her more than anything in this world."
"You're too good for me, Shayne." She said. Arching her back with a whimper. "I can't believe this is real."
"It's real." I smiled. "I called my mom, your mom and Kari. Your mom said she'd let your dad know."
"Thank you." She exhaled. "Anyone at Smosh?"
"Olivia and Damien." I answered her. "Is that okay?"
"More than okay." She grinned, breathing out of her nose.
"Still doing alright?" Gotta check in.
"I think you should - um - maybe get the nurse. Feels like I need to - fuck, it's burning." She drilled her hands into the bed.
"She said she'd be back in twenty," I checked my watch. "That was fifteen minutes ago. Think you can hold on?"
She nodded, throat tight, eyes squeezing shut as another wave of pain rolled over her.
"So close." I said. Flattening my forearms along the railing, my chin rested on top.
"So close." She echoed.

Four blurry hours later, a small, sleeping figure laid on Courtney's bare chest. Wrapped in a soft blue blanket, crowned in a yellow cap.
Tears ran down my cheeks as she cooed at the sleeping child. Her fingers gently resting on the swathed blanket, tenderly reaching up to adjust the cap.
Nurses circled in, reviewing paperwork, and checking vitals of both Courtney and the tiny baby.
"This is insane." I said once the nurses left again. Wiping my misty eyes with the back of my hand, I stood next to the bed.
"We did it." She smiled. Eyes teary.
"You did it." I reiterated.
Bending down, I placed my hand on the small baby's chest. Feeling his heartbeat before stroking his little chin with my thumb. My hand wandered up to Courtney's face, cupping her cheek. Her fingers grasped my forearm, keeping my hand in place as she gazed at the baby in her arms.
"He feels so fragile." She muttered. Releasing my hand to touch the tiny tips of his fingers peeking out from the swaddled blanket.
I let the comment hang, placing a kiss to her forehead and adjusting her hospital gown to cover her chest, before sitting in the chair next to her.
A soft knock at the door caught our attention. Damien and Olivia stood there smiling. A vase of roses in hand.
"Can we come say 'hi'?" Damien whispered.
"We couldn't wait." Olivia smiled. "Wanted to see the new newborn."
I looked at Courtney, she nooded sweetly.
"Come on in." She said quietly.
Damien came over to me, hugging me as I stood to meet him. "Congratulations, man." He said in my ear. Releasing him, I noticed his misty eyes. "Couldn't be happier for you two."
Olivia rounded the other side of the bed, carefully sidehugging Courtney. Muttering all sorts of congratulations and such as she placed the flowers on the bedside table.
"Can I?" She asked Courtney. Looking at the swathed baby. Courtney nodded, cupping the infant's head as Olivia bent to hold him.
She cooed at the tiny figure, gently swaying her body as she smiled at him.
"You guys," Olivia said. "The genes this kid has. Gorgeous."
Courtney chuckled, looking at me.
"May I?" Damien asked Courtney.
"Of course, Dames." Her empty hands rested on her lap as she watched her closest friends fawn over our child.
Olivia mimicked Courtney's previous motions, supporting the head while Damien bent his knees, getting underneath Olivia's arms to flawlessly cradle the baby.
"He's so tiny." Damien laughed quietly. "So small." He pressed a finger on the tucked blanket around the baby's chest.
He smiled as he ran a soft hand over the small cap, bracing the infant against him chest.
"Have you guys settled on a name?" Olivia asked, eyes flitting between Courtney and I.
"We have." I said, standing next to Damien as he held the infant. Damien grinned, carefully transferring the baby into my arms.
I cradled him against my chest. His head in the crook of my elbow, my arms securing him to my body.
"Butt Farts." Damien deadpanned, making us all laugh.
"God." Courtney giggled. I caught a glimpse of her tired eyes. Short visit, I promise. "We decided on something meaningful to us. He has Shayne's middle name, and his first name starts with the same sound as mine."
"If you named this kid Krunch or something." Olivia warned with a playful smile.
"Almost." I joked, sticking my tongue out at her before looking back down at the sleeping newborn in my arms.
"Kai Robert Topp." Courtney nodded, reaching her hands out toward me, signaling she wanted to hold him. I placed him in Courtney's arms.
"So good, guys, wow." Olivia sighed, shaking her head. "I love it."
"That's a good one." Damien said. Squeezing my shoulder approvingly.
"Are we the first ones to see?" Olivia asked excitedly.
"You guys are." I confirmed.
"You got the honors." Courtney smiled at them. "Wouldn't have it any other way."

i hope you all like the name! i thought it sounded nice:) i know some of the logistics about this aren't super realistic, for example, visiting them mere hours after they had kai, but it just fit with the story so i rolled with it. i also really didn't want to write a legit birth, so this is the most graceful way i could do it. hope you enjoy:)
