courtney's pov -
Shayne and I headed back up to the others as the sky began to turn a deep shade of melon. Keith had just woken up, remnants of his nap still in his eyes, Olivia and Sam were talking with Damien, and Noah and Tiffany were sitting on a towel and looking at each other's phones. Laughing as they pointed to the screens.
"Alright, who's down for some pizza tonight?" Shayne asked as we got to the group. Bending down, he picked our towels out of our woven bag. A glint of the small shell keychain Kora made us caught my eye. Hanging by the straw handles. I shook the thoughts of her out of my head. Not now.
"We gotta head back." Noah said, pointing between himself and Tiffany. "But we'll see you guys soon?"
"I have some early meetings in the morning. Work doesn't stop on weekends." Tiffany groaned, rolling her eyes playfully.
"Don't worry girl." Olivia smiled. "We've all been there." She gave Tiffany a sympathetic side hug.
"Cheers." I said as I wrapped my towel around my chest.
"We'll see you soon, dude." Keith said to Noah. Earning a grateful 'thank you' from the couple as they headed up the stairs and around the side deck to our driveway in the front.
"I'm down for some pizza." Damien shrugged as he helped Sam take down our giant beach umbrella.
"Damien," Shayne started. "You can't order some weird death pizza." He laughed.
"Just because you can't handle some pineapple doesn't mean it's not good." Damien countered with a smirk.
"Mans gotta point!" I said beaming, pointing a thumb at Damien.
"Oh, hush, you don't count." Shayne said, staring intently at me before throwing his towel over my face. Making me laugh as I flipped up the edge to peek at him.
"I wish we could stay, but we gotta get back to Grizzy." Olivia sighed.
"It's like this dog is a kid." Sam joked.
"No worries." I said, discarding Shayne's towel into our bag. "I'd die for that dog, guys."
"She would." Shayne confirmed as he hoisted the umbrella over his shoulder. Damien stabilizing it from behind as he gained his footing.
"And with that," Sam said, "We gotta claim Keith."
"Yeah. They're my ride." Keith said. Seemingly disoriented, he had his things in his arms.
"I can't wait for the day you get your license." Olivia said, looking at me before Keith.
"What was that?" Keith asked, stepping closer to her. "What?" He pretended not to hear her.
"Hm? What?" She played dumb and smiled.
"I'll help you guys with your things." Damien said gently as he helped Sam scoop up their towels and small bag of sunscreen.
With my hands full of our stuff, I trailed Shayne up the stairs to the lower deck, where we keep our beach things. Waving to Olivia, Sam, and Keith as they headed up to the top deck with Damien. Doing one last sweep to make sure they didn't forget anything.
"You thinking that pizza place on the boardwalk?" I asked Shayne. A soft grunt left his lips as he leaned the umbrella up against the small outdoor shower.
"Yeah, that one, or the one a few streets over." He said. A smile plastered on his face.
"What?" I giggled. "What's that face?"
