shayne's pov -
"This one!" Courtney exclaimed as she held up a small bouquet of ruby red roses. Little sprigs of Queen Anne's Lace mixed it. Halfway wrapped in a pretty, brown paper, exposing the beautiful flowers. And tied together with a single piece of twine. "Perfect." She said proudly, taking another look at it.
"Let's get it." I smiled. Pressing a hand on the small of her back, gently ushering her through the shop to the front register.
"This is beautiful." The cashier said as she typed some numbers into the iPad in front of her. "These are locally grown, too, believe it or not. Indoor greenhouse down the block." She gestured outside, to the left.
"That's awesome." Courtney said. "It's simple, but so beautiful."
"Most of the flowers I have in my apartment are from these guys." The cashier said. Hand on the small printer, waiting for the receipt. "Too good." She laughed.
"You got that right." Courtney agreed. Taking the bouquet from the cashier and stuffing the receipt into her back pocket.
"Have a good one." The woman said as we headed out into the sun.
"You too." I grinned, waving at her. Closing the door behind us.
"Okay, so by the time we get out to Santa Monica, we'll have about an hour before the recital starts." Courtney said we walked, looking down at her watch.
"So it does start at seven?" I asked to confirm.
"Oh shit." She laughed. "Yes. Sorry. I thought I told you. It's at the high school, too. So it's like a ten-minute drive."
"Perfect." I hummed. "Kora's going to love seeing you." I tested the waters. I genuinely think she misses you.
"I'm excited to see all of them." Courtney said. Tightening her jaw slightly. A faint twitch that I caught. "I'm - um - I'm very happy Jax invited us." She said. Why did you hesitate?
"I am too. Quality time together." I noted. Pressing my key fob to unlock my car as we approached it.
"It'll just be a fun night out. I honestly believe that." She smiled.
"I mean yeah, who doesn't want to watch a bunch of five-year-olds doused in glitter run around stage in costumes?" I laughed. Courtney let out a single laugh as she got into the car. Swatting my arm as I slid into the driver's seat.
"Oh stop it." She giggled. "It'll be fun." She said again. Quieter. To herself.

"Is this good?" Courtney asked as she opened the door from the bathroom and stepped into our room.
I laid on the bed, my back against the headboard, legs stretched out in front of me, as I typed up some sketch finalizations on my laptop.
Courtney looked down at herself. A tight black skirt capped her thighs and stopped just above her knees. Her torso was covered in a thin-strapped, black top. Fit to her body. Leaving only a single slit of cream skin exposed at her midriff when she bent down.
Her chest was decorated with silver necklaces. Layered on each other. Sparkling with each turn of her head. She pulled at her curled red hair and I noticed she chose to go with her clear, thin-framed glasses.
"You're ..." I started. At a loss for words. Jesus, you take the simplest thing and make it so fucking beautiful.
"I went with converse to tone it down." Courtney jumped in. Fidgeting with her hands. The hightop shoes covered her ankles. "Not that a black skirt and a black top is anywhere near formal." She laughed nervously.
"Courtney, you're beautiful. My god. This - it's perfect. Don't change a thing." I said as I shut my laptop and moved across the bed to sit closer to her standing figure.
"Yeah?" She asked softly. Smiling, she turned her head to hide her blush.
"Yeah." I said seriously, my head dipping with a nod. "Literally, whatever I wear, no matter how nice, I'm going to look like absolute garbage next to you." I grinned as I pushed myself off of the bed to walk to the wardrobe. Opening it, I scanned for the best outfit.
"What a dirty lie." Courtney laughed as she headed back into the bathroom. "What about a white shirt and overshirt combo?" Her voice echoed slightly.
"That works." I agreed, rooting around the hangers. "What about pants? I love that I'm dating a fashion expert."
I heard Courtney laugh.
She walked out of the bathroom, putting earrings in.
"Well, which overshirt are you going with?" She asked. I held out a hanger with a white shirt and another shirt on top of it. Dark blue with thin white stripes. "Hm. Go with your tan shorts. Casual look for the evening." She grinned.
I pulled the shorts out of a low drawer. "These bad boys." I laughed as I swung them over my shoulder and headed for the bathroom.
"I'm not done in there, Shayne!" Courtney yelled to me. Words lost in her laughter.
"No one is stopping you. Door's open." I winked, making my way to the vanity, placing my clothes on it as I took off my shirt.
Without missing a single beat, Courtney's hands were on my back. Turning me around and pressing me into the vanity.
She placed desperate kisses on my lips. Her torso flushed against my skin. Wandering hands sent trails of fire through my nerves.
"Court ..." I barely got out. Breathing as she placed open mouth kisses down my neck. With a sharp grunt, I picked her up and sat her on the vanity. A yelp escaped her lips as I dug my hands into her thighs, hiking up her skirt to do so.
She mumbled something I didn't catch as I kissed up her chest, to her neck. Pausing to lick just below her earlobe. Fingering one of her thin straps with my right hand, I snapped her bra strap. Making her jump. She gripped my hair and pressed her chest into mine.
She pulled my head up and reclaimed my mouth. Slathering it with kisses. Groaning into it as my hands rested back on her thighs. Squeezing higher and higher.
"Please." She begged. Lifting her chin to breathe. Her chest heaving with every pant.
I hummed and put my lips to her neck. Using a thumb to swipe her core. She gasped. Grasping my hair harder. So I did it again.
"If you -" She panted. "If you keep - doing this - we won't - we won't be there - on - on time."
I smirked against the skin of her collarbone. Rolling over her core with my thumb once more before wrapping my hands underneath her thighs and lifting her off the counter. Walking out of the bathroom, I threw her on the bed.
"Then I guess we need to make it quick." I said into her ear, making her arch up against me.
