The minute Hailee turn eighteen a smile broke out on her face.

Twelve am on September 20. She had a marker out and her arm laid out.

She quickly uncapped it and pressed the tip to her arm, the ink seeping into her skin.

"Hi!"

She frowned as she looked at the exclamation mark. Was it too much?

She waited tapping her pen against her desk. She looked out her window and watched the sky.

Suddenly she felt a cold tingling on her arm at 2:44am. She squealed in excitement and looked down.

"Hi"

Maybe it was too much excitement.

"It's really late I didn't expect you to be up lol :)"

She waited.

This time only 45 minutes.

"Oh you're in a different time zone it's 4:30ish here"

She frowned.

That was a big time difference.

Really big.

"Oh I'm in eastern time and it's 3:30am"

"K"

She frowned.

K?

Just k?

"I'm eighteen today!"

"I guessed as such, happy bday"

"Thank you! When was your birthday?"

"August 2"

"Oh what year?"

"99' I'm busy rn"

"Oh well ok I'll go to bed!"

Hailee set down the pen on her desk and grabbed a washcloth and started scrubbing at her arm to get the ink off.

Two months had passed since Hailee's birthday.

He didn't say his name, he only said his age and said hello. It seemed like he was simply putting up with her instead of trying.

Did he really not want her that much?

"Hailee please it's ok," her friend, Sydney said, her voice booming through their house. "If he doesn't want you then fuck him! You don't need him!"

"But why do I feel like I do," Hailee said looking up at the girl.

"Because you've been looking forward to it your whole life because of your parents," she said. "You grew up in a community where people are gushing over soulmates! It's a huge thing. I don't blame you!"

Hailee looked down at her arm. Her lone 'hi' standing out against her skin.

"Just wait okay," Sydney said crawling behind her, "please things happen for reasons."

"Mom he literally wrote 'forget me as I've done you'," Hailee screamed at her parents as they tried to comfort the crying 19 year old.

"Hal," her dad said, his used to be hair covering the tops of his ears.

"Don't fucking Hal me," she screamed, tears rushing down her face. "He rejected me! He said to forget him!"

"Hailee Emmerie Choi," her mom snapped as she grabbed her daughter's shoulders. "He said later. Later doesn't mean never."

"He also said forget him," she cried, "why the fuck? I know it's hard with the time zones but..."

She looked down.

"What time zone is it," her dad said as he looked at his wife.

"Korean," she said, "I checked and learned the patterns so I could write him at a decent time but he-"

"No," her mom said, "don't accommodate him. Forget him. You're a grown girl raised and born in New York. Untouchable. You don't need him. You want him because everyone else has. But you don't need him."

Hailee sniffled as hell mom wiped her tears off her face.

"Show him what he gave away."
