Sugawara woke up at 3 am on June 13th, a wave of unease falling over him. There was something that day - he just couldn't put his finger on what. He just hoped he hadn't been getting deja vu for forgetting something important, like a teammates birthday. He shrugged it off, falling back asleep, figuring he would remember it in the morning.

He didn't. His alarm went off at 7 that morning and he groaned as he sat up. He made his way downstairs to eat breakfast, and to his surprise, his mother had left him a plate of pancakes. He didn't know why and it added to his growing unease. Had he done something wrong and this was just the chill before he was grounded for weeks?

School made him feel even worse when everyone seemed extra fidgety around him at morning practice.

"Afternoon practice is cancelled today. I will see you all tomorrow." Now Sugawara was even more scared. Coach Ukai didn't specify why - he just cancelled it.

Daichi shuffled around all day awkwardly. Today was Sugawara's birthday and he wanted to make it special. Although his plan meant not wishing Sugawara a happy birthday until later that day, Sugawara didn't seem to mind - he didn't to even seem to notice. Sugawara did seem a little anxious though, although it didn't seem related to his birthday. It wasn't until lunch when Sugawara asked the question that dropped Daichi's jaw.

"Hey, Daichi? Am I forgetting about someone's birthday or anniversary today? Everyone keeps giving me weird looks and I feel like there was something important today."

"I- Uhm. Nope!"

"You sure?"

"Mhm, definitely! Oh, hey Suga, do you have any plans today?"

"Nope!"

"Well, even if practice is cancelled, I wouldn't mind playing a little. Can you meet me in the gym after school?"

Sugawara nodded. He was happy that Daichi was willing to spend some time with him, (he did have a little crush on him after all), but still felt a little uneasy about it. Normally on days off, Daichi would spend time with Michimiya, (when the girl's practice was also cancelled), or catching up on homework.

School ended and it was time to meet Daichi in the gym. He collected his things, but once he checked his phone he saw a notification from Daichi.

♡Captain♡
Hey, Suga can we actually meet in 30 mins instead? I need to check on my sisters really quick!

Me

Sure thing, captain ;) See you soon!

♡Captain♡
Thank you :)

Hm, what to do until then?

"Koushi, sweetie! I heard you're meeting with your friends to celebra- I mean play volleyball with the cute one! Have fun, and bring this to him, will you? It's just something small."

Suspicious.

On the other end of the screen, Daichi was a blushing mess. Did Sugawara really need to add the winky face? It was indeed part of his signature charm, and it almost got him flushed as when he did it in real life. (Keyword - almost.)

He turned back to his teammates who were all lined up, gifts and snacks in their hands.

"Let's get this place decorated!"

Thirty minutes was not enough, but they did what they could.

Me
Hey Suga, I'm done :)

♡♡♡♡SUGA♡♡♡♡
Okay, omw ;)

Screw Suga and his winky faces. At least the dark made it easy to cover it up, but the light from his screen was shining on his blushing face. His teammates didn't question it though, the two were practically already a couple.

Footsteps were heard approaching the door.

"Daichi~ Aw. Did I get here before him?"

Sugawara hummed as he fumbled with the keys to unlock the door, finding a pitch dark gym. Walking over to the lightswitch, he tripped over a spare roll of streamers. He could barely see it, but it was grey, the same shade as his hair. Why were there streamers?

He set the wrapped box his mother gave him down, and as soon as he turned on the lights...

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUGA!"

His eyes took a moment to adjust to the light, but he was speechless once he found the gym decorated in greys, tables full of gifts and cakes all, and the whole team wearing birthday hats.

Confetti filled his silver hair with pinks, greens, blues, yellows, and every other color you could think of. He smiled widely before being tackled into a group hug.

"Thank you so much guys!"

Cheers and shouts filled the gym. Once he was released from the bone-crushing hug, he remembered the box for Daichi.

"Oh, Daichi! My mother gave this to me- to give to you!"

Daichi chuckled. Here goes nothing. He opened the box, revealing an even smaller velvet box, one that would normally hold jewelry or something. He popped open the box so it was facing Sugawara. Inside the box was a silver bracelet with tiny writing engraved on it.

"I.. Love you, Koushi?"

He gasped. He loved it so much, and it was incredibly beautiful.

"Daichi! It's so beautiful! And, oh my goodness, I love you too."

And that was Sugawara's best birthday, even if he had forgotten it was his birthday. He wouldn't have it any other way.
