Danny opened her eyes in an instant as she heard the loud noise. Before she knew what was happening, the man in front of her fell to the ground as he screamed out in pain. He clutched his leg tight as blood oozed out from the bullet wound he had just gotten.
Danny whipped her head back to see where the noise came from.
And there he was, in his uniform that clung to his body, Damien stood with his gun out at arm's length. Danny felt a rush of relief as soon as she saw him and she sighed.
She then looked back at the man who was nowhere to be seen. He had already started to scamper away from there. Soon she saw Damien pass by her, as he ran behind the man shouting, "Stop! Police!"
She hoped he would catch him so she could know why someone was trying to kill her.
Danny sighed and laid back on the road, too exhausted and depleted to get back up.
She was almost just killed.
She was too traumatized. She stayed like that for a few minutes as she tried to calm herself and catch her breath.Just then she heard footsteps approaching her and looked up to see Damien.
He was panting as he tried to catch his breath.
Danny looked behind him to find no criminal which made her eyebrows furrow.
"Where is he?" She asked with panic laced in her voice.
"He escaped. That bastard!" Damien replied with a huff as he tried to catch his breath.
"What the hell? You let him go?" She questioned a little loudly.
"He got in a car with some of his men and sped away. I called some officers to search for them. They'll try and get them."
"What's the use of it now? He must've disappeared already!" Danny cried out as she started to get up.
"Why did you shoot him in the leg? You sure have a bad aim for a police officer!" Danny snapped at him, irritated that he let the man escape.
"I couldn't just kill the guy! I wanted him alive." He said a little annoyed with her attitude.
Danny just grunted in response and struggled to get up.
"Are you okay?" Damien inquired her as he supported her to get up.
Just then his eyes went to the flecks of blood painted on the ground.
"Are you hurt somewhere?" Damien implored as he spun Danny around in his arms.
He instantly lifted her shirt up slightly as he saw the blood-stained area of her shirt to expose her skin that was marked with a tiny slash on her back.
Danny gasped and her eyes went wide as his fingers trailed against her skin. She abruptly stepped back away from his contact and pulled her shirt down quickly. She didn't want anyone to see her. Not her body.
"What are you doing? I'm fine!" She seethed at him as she held back a shiver. She was dazed. She was amazed as to how and mostly why a mere touch of this man could do things to her.
"Stop overreacting and come with me." He retorted in a flat tone and took her hand in his.
Danny's eyes went down to their hands and then back to him. She was about to combat but the expression on his face told her it was better for her to keep quiet and follow him.
They both walked towards his car with her hand in his as she followed him mutely behind. She couldn't look away from their intertwined hands. Chills ran down her body with his touch.
