9- Sound of an Enemy's Drum

I sat up to see a woman around her early thirties, black waves spilled from her head and cascading down her back. She was olive skinned and had the most strange, but dazzling eyes. Dark blue rimmed with purple and they were definitely not contacts. She was undeniably beautiful. Heavily beaded necklaces draped across her neck and her arms were covered in strange tattooed markings starting at her wrists all the way up to her shoulders.

"Hello, earth to Andie are you going to stay there or a take a seat?" Joseph said gesturing to the round table and chairs.

"Relax. I'm getting up it's not every day a girl travels by magical portals." I sat at the table opposite the woman I'm guessing is Madame Calista, with Vincent and Joseph sat either side of me.

"My name is Madame Calista. I have to say I've been awaiting your visit for some years now." She spoke with the same soft and reassuring tone of voice.

"Let me guess, sixteen years?"

"Yes child, it is written in the prophecies formed by the Gods, before the very beginning of time. Each prophecy is contained in a crystal ball, which are guarded by the kidemones and I am one of the few left alive."

"Okay, but I don't understand what this has to do with me. Truthfully I only came here to ask you something."

Her lips curved into a smile. "Oh child, this has everything to do with you, maybe telling you won't help. I guess I will have to show you, now you to boys have to leave." She said waving them off.

"What? No I'm sorry Madame Calista, but I cannot allow that." Vincent said sternly.

"But it isn't up to you is Vincent, now Andromeda do you want them to stay?"

I turned to look at Vincent who clearly was not amused and Joseph who didn't really seem to care all too much. "I'll be fine Vincent I think I can take care of myself, besides maybe looking into the prophecy will help."

"Fine, but if I hear anything suspicious I will break the damn door down."

"Relax Vincent you were the one who recommended Madame Calista."

"It's not that, it's just there are people out there who want you dead and if we don't bring you back in one piece we will be the ones dead too." Joseph piped up from behind the door.

"The boy is right, now we must proceed I am a busy woman." Madame Calista said waving Vincent off.

"So where do we begin?" I asked nervously. I have no idea what I am letting myself into. I don't even know if I want to know the prophecy.

Madame Calista smiled at my question and went over to the far left of the room, which looked endless. "Come now, we will go to the library of lost souls."

I followed her into a darkened room, where the only light source was from the spherical objects full of swirling white light. Each glass ball rested on a golden crown embellished the entire way round in pearls. They spoke. They whispered, they whispered the futures of people I would never meet, people I may have passed in the street. Complete strangers. And my future lay among theirs stored in a fragile glass ball. Madame Calista went over to the right side of the room and leant her head against the shelf barely holding up the crystal balls, her face was calm and concentrated.

She closed her eyes shut whispering, "This is the one, and this is yours." She picked up the one on the third row two from the right. She sat cross legged on the rug, motioning me to sit opposite her.

"So, what happens now?" I asked, getting myself in to a comfortable seating position.

"Place your hands onto the crystal ball and it will show you everything you need to know."
