15- Fools Night

The two days went faster than a blink of an eye, each waking moment I spent my mind was wracked with self-doubt. I didn't think I could go through with it and I still don't think I can now. And when I wasn't awake the nightmares returned, yet this time it was different. It wasn't the repeated playback of the apartment fire. No, it was the same select scene from the prophecy.

I lay on the muddy ground in a crumpled heap watching civilisation burn to ash. Men fought to defend their homes as the women and children fled to safety in the depths of the forest. I had that same feeling of emptiness. Fire incinerated anyone and anything in its path, she chased after her victims catching them by the heels tripping them up and devouring every part of what they once were.

I saw Adonis lurking behind the sycamore tree standing all callous and calm as if this was a mere scene in a film, not the brutal slaughter of innocent people. The murderer stood beside him leaning lazily against the tree gazing at the destruction before him. He caught my glance and smiled sadistically and took a bow as he was proud of his work. Proud of the massacre he had begun and it was not going to be the last.

The figure behind them started to become clearer, yet I still could not tell who it was. All I could notice was that this person had a familiar aura. That is when the thick fog rose from the ashen ground blurring my vision and that was all I saw in my slumber. The same ordeal repeated again and again like Groundhog Day.

A knock came from the door tearing me abruptly away from my daydream.

"Come in!" The door opened to reveal Valentina and Lilah.

"As you know its Fools Night tonight and everyone is busy preparing for the feast later, so we need to prepare ourselves. If you know what I'm saying." Valentina said wiggling her eyebrows.

"I honestly don't have a clue and please stop doing that with your eyebrows its freaking me out."

"We have to get ourselves ready and make ourselves look beautiful, of course." She explained.

"Ah now I understand but I have no clothes all of them are back at the house."

"Don't worry about that I have a wardrobe bursting at the seams with clothes." Lilah said.

"What are we doing sitting here then? Let's go because this is going to take a while."

"That's the spirit!" Valentina squealed, Lilah just rolled her eyes and I couldn't help but laugh a little. Maybe this wouldn't be such a bad thing it will take my mind off what is really going to happen today.

I followed Lilah and Valentina to the wardrobe room, which is what I have decided to call it. Even though it wasn't my first time in here I couldn't help but be amazed at the amount of fine silks that draped on the cream coloured walls. Jewels were scattered carelessly across the red velvet rug. Diamonds twinkled against the light of the ivory chandelier which hung on the sunset painted ceiling.

"She's doing the thing again." Lilah said to Valentina.

"What?" I said turning around to them "What?" I said again placing my hands on my hips.

"You are staring at the walls like you've never seen clothes before."

"I have never seen this many clothes before." I said gesturing at the clothing rack after clothing rack of ball gowns.

"We don't have much time left its now five o'clock and we need to be at the Anisychos woods for eight." Valentina said glancing at the clock.

"What?!" I exclaimed.
