12- High Council Sessions & Impressions

I followed Lilah to wherever she was taking me, her robe swishing against the marbled floor. Guards stood either side of the golden corridors their faces emotionless, cold and hard like statues. I could barely tell if they were breathing or not. Each of them held a golden spear the candlelight reflecting off the sharpened tip, their armour matched their weapon, the exact same shade of gold with the symbol of the Nova imprinted in the centre of the plackart.

The walls were covered in paintings of Hecate all various different interpretations of her, there was one in particular that stood out. It was very similar to the one at the house on the stained glass window.

Yet, here she was depicted in a more sinister form. The scene of the painting was in a forest in the black of night with the moon providing the main source of light, as she was not only the goddess of witchcraft but also the moon and night. Hecate stood centre stage of the painting portraying her as the goddess she is; cobras slithered up her forearms baring their fangs laced in poison, their eyes a fierce orange full of evil.

On either side of her two more of herself were drawn, each of them holding a golden torch burning high into the night. Fire surrounded her almost as if it was a safety blanket like fire was to me. Two bloodhounds their skin as black as Hecates' hair, one lay in front guarding her. The other stood tall, baring its razor sharp teeth just like cobras. Blood red eyes stared at me. I could feel them burning holes in my soul.

"Hey daydreamer, we're here." Lilah said opening the doors to every teenage girl's paradise.

"Forget walk in wardrobe, this room is just a wardrobe." I said completely and utterly bemused by the amount of clothing that hung on the copper rails. Skirts, dresses and t-shirts galore. I could hear Lilah laughing at me and I would too, I'm pretty sure I am gaping.

"Look around and pick something that speaks to you, then we can work from there on."

"Okay." I said smiling, I feel like I am kid being let loose in a toy store with the freedom to pick whatever I want no matter what anyone says.

I let my hand glide against the various gowns. They were organised by colour it was a rainbow of fabrics. Golden yellow, sunburnt orange and sea green dresses. Midnight blue, baby pink and black velvet skirts adorned the railings. I went to the other side of the room and that's when I saw it.

A floor length black lace dress, it had full sleeves also laced in black roses but they were sheer. I picked it off the railing taking the utmost care, as if a single touch would break the very stitching that held it all together. It's perfect, any of the other dresses seemed too loud for the occasion, and too happy for the meeting of the people who are going to judge you based on a single look.

"I see you've picked out your outfit." Lilah said popping out of nowhere.

"Yeah, so what do you think?" I said holding up the dress for her to view.

"It's a bit drab don't you think?" She said examining the dress like a doctor would to his patient.

"Really? I actually quite li-"

"We need something bold, something that says you have arrived and you won't let the Nova decide your fate." She said cutting me off mid-sentence.

"But I really like this dress and besides all the others are little to informal for the occasion and too short."

"Maybe we don't need to change the dress." She paused to rummage around in the drawers. "The black belt and I know what you're thinking that totally contradicts what I just said. But when you wear it the belt will light up and flames will blaze. I thought seeing as you can control fire this would work perfectly."
