"So far, so good," I thought as the man left with my tray. None of the soldiers had tried to touch me since the episode with the last one. I could only hope that Kurt was faring as well. He wasn't the type to hit back when another person hurt him, and I admired him for it. In a place like this, however, that quality would more than likely end in said person getting beaten to a pulp, or even killed. Especially someone as different as Kurt. The soldiers made it very clear that they were anti-mutant, and Kurt was as mutant as it got....The man, Stryker, visited what seemed like every few days. He tried to get me to give him more information about Kurt every time. "You see," he explained. "Your friend has not been the most cooperative, and we need to know his abilities to carry out the plans we have for him." "Good for him," I answered coldly. "If he won't tell you anything, I sure as hell won't." Then, he would always just shrug, get up, and leave.
As boredom began to creep in, I began to sleep a lot. I would also attempt to stave off said boredom by doing jumping jacks and push-ups to get some kind of exercise in the small space. When I wasn't doing either, I thought. It was obvious that they had caught us while we were sleeping in those woods. I just couldn't work out how they managed it without waking us.... Maybe they used some sort of sedative.... I spent most of my thinking time, however, imagining what life would be like after Kurt and I found a way out of that place. We would finally be together. I could love him without that constant fear that he wouldn't love me back. We could hold hands, kiss, even go on dates. Those thoughts are what kept me happy in that place. They were the one thing I clung to. They kept me living in a place designed to crush any life out of you. Squish the humanity. Make you dead inside. Kurt, even if he didn't know it, kept me alive in the place meant to kill me. I just hoped that he too had found something, someone, to cling to. I hoped that, maybe, that person was me.
