Kurt and I both stared in awe at how huge the mansion was. Strangely, however, the place felt like home: intimate. It didn't make you feel small. We looked at each other and smiled.

Storm showed us the rooms we'd be staying in. They were conjoined, which was a comfort. It felt so big compared to the small trailer we had lived in. I sat on the bed as Kurt explored his own room. "This place is huge, but also... not," he whispered. I nodded, smiling.

Kurt's mood quickly turned somber, however. "I want to stay," he said quietly. "This place feels like it could be home. It's safe, and there are people like us here." He hesitated. "But you don't want to leave the circus," I said, understandingly. He nodded. "They're our family, but this also feels like it could be family. Besides, I feel like for the first time, I have a purpose. I'm not just a performer. I'm actually making a difference... They saved our lives, Lizzie. What if we could help do the same for others, if only by protecting them in this place?" I sighed. "I think.... I think we should stay." He nodded and slipped his arm around my shoulder. "Wherever you are is home, Liebling," he whispered. I blushed and leaned my head on his shoulder. It was decided; we were going to join the X-men.

As we walked downstairs,  holding hands, several students surrounded us. Most were ones that had been saved from Stryker's base. "Thank you for saving us," said one girl shyly. Kurt flinched as she hugged him, but he quickly relaxed, hugging the girl back. "You're welcome... Jubilee is it?" The girl laughed, and sparks flew from her fingers. Kurt grinned.

As we finally made our way to the kitchen, Storm and Logan sat at the table. Storm sternly shooed the children away to class as we sat down. "We're staying!" I announced happily. Storm grinned, hugging Kurt then me. I already quite liked the older woman, and I hoped we would become great friends.

Kurt poured himself a glass of water and hesitantly sat beside Logan, who was scowling at his own glass. He stood abruptly, and spun to walk away.

Kurt withered, and just as I was about to comfort him and / or admonish Logan's behavior, the bigger man whipped back around. "Hey, Elf!" he said gruffly. Kurt looked up, cautiously and hopefully. "You want to go get a beer? I need a drink, and water ain't cutting it." Kurt lit up, but he hesitated, looking towards me. I smiled and made a shooing motion with my hand. He leapt up and scurried after Logan happily. Turning back to Storm, I smiled. Like puzzle pieces, we'd found our place. We were X-men.
