Chapter 3
The week before school started came and went. I spent the whole week buying new band shirts and jeans. The school supplies I didn't need to worry about this year as my father had bought so many supplies I am sure Dimitri is going to call me Wal-Mart. Driving around in my father's Honda Civic was relaxing. So much easier than having to walk all over the place, especially to places like Westminster mall.
Two days before school started I drove to Westminster mall. I pulled into an available parking space thinking over and over why I was here. I kept coming up with the same answer: I had no clue. I walked out of the car and towards the entrance of the mall. It was full of people today, kids with their parents buying last minute clothes or supplies for school. I went inside and bought myself a smoothie and sat on a bench. Just sitting there watching people rush up and down seeming to hurry to catch all the 'specials' the stores were 'offering.' People fascinated me, the way they acted when they thought no one was looking. A mom yelling at her kid, a dad hugging his teenage daughter where she doesn't pretend to mind the show of affection, all these people were happy. Even the angry teenage boy who didn't get the brand of shoes he wanted. All these people are happy, they must hold a secret recipe. If only I could have a chance at happiness. I got up and slowly made my way out. The sun was so bright but the mall had never seemed so full of joy.
