Chapter 4

"Judas," Dimitri said.

I rolled my eyes. Damn, he was annoying at times. He had come over for the afternoon unexpectedly.

"What?" I said bluntly.

"Have you ever thought of looking for your mom?" He asked dryly.

"She left me. Its obvious she doesn't want me." I said without emotion.

"Huh. Maybe that just what you think."

I smirked. "Sure."

Dimitri grabbed the car keys off the couch. "Want to go somewhere?"

"Well..." my voice came out uneasy. I actually wanted to stay in bed. Yeah I know, lazy.

"It's a gig." He snapped.

I smiled meekly. "I'm in."

"I knew you would be."

We were standing in line out side Dominion Club. I knew the club like the palm of my hand. Many of my favorite bands had played here. Both signed and not signed.

It was a huge crowd for Wednesday night.

"Whose playing?" I asked Dimitri.

He squinted towards the entrance. "The usual. And a new band called Morning Death. Which doesn't surprise me at all actually." He rolled his eyes. "Every metal band name has death in it."

"Not every band." I was a bit annoyed at his assumption.

"Sure, sure." He prattled.

Once we were in I headed towards my usual table, high fiving a few people as I made my way to it.

"Yo Jude." Brent gave my back a hard pat. Dimitri simply narrowed his eyes.

"Haven't seen you lately." Brent's breath smelled of booze.

"Been on a tight budget."

"Ah. Well there's a new band performing. I heard they have an awesome vocalist."

"Really?" I doubted it for some reason. Brent's idea of what was good didn't usually match my criteria.

"Yeah. See ya later Jude." He patted my back once more. Nodded once towards Dimitri's way before leaving.

"Since when do you have friends?" Dimitri asked incredulous.

"They aren't friends. Simply gig people I know." I stated.

"Huh. I see." He got off his stool. "I'm going to get some beer."

I wrinkled my nose. "Bring me some vodka."

"Alright." He stopped in his tracks. "Do they ask for ID?"

I burst out laughing. "No they don't care."

Dimitri flashed me a concerned look. Maybe I was losing it.

Jack the club owner got on stage. Everyone began whooping and yelling, throwing their fists in the air.

I simply stood up.

"Tonight," Jack started. "We have a new band performing." Everyone yelled enthusiastically.

"Here's Morning Death."

Dimitri came back. Just on time. He handed me my vodka. I punched his arm appreciatively.

They had a girl vocalist. Interesting. I tried squinting to make her out.

"Hey guys," she sounded nervous. "Today we're going to play a track called Betrayal's fire."

The guitar began to play. The drums, amazingly, were beating rapidly.

The girl started growling into the microphone. I turned to look at Dimitri. He winced at the loudness of her growl. It was a nice growl, steady and confident.

I began to lightly headbang. Taking a gulp of my vodka. Ah, it felt good.

The band finished after a few tracks. Everyone yelling they wanted more. I yelled alongside them. Dimitri looked like he wanted to disappear. The girl and her band members walked off stage.

I took finished my vodka. Damn.

"Hey," I yelled over all the noise. "I'm going to get something to drink."

Dimitri nodded. "Bring me soda."

Soda, really?

"Alright." I made my way towards the bar. I asked the bartender for a beer and a soda. She looked at me funny.

"Soda?" She repeated.

"Yeah." I yelled. The band on stage was hella loud.

"Alright."

She came back with two glasses. "Here. Its 4 bucks."

"Is is cheap week?" I asked.

She smiled. "Yeah. Jack's idea."

I handed her the cash. I turned to head back to the table when I bumped into somebody.

"Watch where you're going," I growled.

Oh shit. It was the girl from registration. The one with the green eyes. The one that got dumped.

"Excuse me?" She said nastily.

I grabbed my beer and poured it on her.
