I watch the sea of visitors come in watching for a girl in blue as well as a certain girl in grey.
Most people just walk past me, but one particular girl, who looks to be about fifteen, comes up to me and asks if I had seen Jaden. I had expected to see her wearing the blues of Erudite because that's where Jaden had transferred from, but instead I see a bright red dress.
"Siobhan?" I ask her.
The girl looks confused, "How do you know my name?"
It is her, "I am Jaden's instructor, and when he first came, all he could talk about was his girlfriend who would be joining him next year. I waited up here to talk to you."
She fidgets nervously as if afraid I'm going to tell her that Jaden us dead, but in my opinion, what I have to say is worse.
"When I came here, I was in the same situation as Jaden, but for me, I have to wait two years. Normally I wouldn't talk to the families of the initates, but I feel that you should know what he's been doing."
The look on her face tells me that she has an idea as to what I'm about to say, "Has he been with someone else?"
I sigh, "My best friend works in the control room, he caught Jaden in bed with four of the Dauntless-Born girls. I figured if you were planning on joining Dauntless only because of him, it would be better that you know now instead of after making the most important choice of your life simply because of a boy who couldn't even be faithful."
"Thank you," she tells me before shoving her way through the door with a look that is as against Amity's beliefs as what Jaden did is against mine.
Now the only person I need to look for is clad in grey, and I can't wait to see her.
The second bus arrives, and I still don't see any grey. Uriah had told me that she would be on the second bus, but I am not going to get discouraged. Beatrice is still from Abnegation, she probably gave up her place to someone else planning on being with the third group.
As the last person gets off the bus, I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn to find Uriah telling me to follow him.
Although I didn't want to leave, Uriah doesn't usually ask anything of me, so I follow him curious to know what is so important. He leads me through the pit to the place by the Chasm where Zeke, Shauna, and I like to hang out.
Sitting on the rocks is a blonde girl in a Dauntless dress. I can only see her back, but as Uriah clears his throat, she turns.
"Beatrice," I gasp.
"I thought I'd surprise you," she smiles at me.
I didn't notice Uriah leave, but he must as I don't see him anymore. Beatrice and I sit on the rocks talking about the past year. I tell her about becoming one of Dauntless's leaders, and since the youngest leader is usually in charge of how initiation is done, I decided to train the transfers too.
After a couple hours of talking, I walk her back to my apartment where we find Zeke and Shauna setting out dinner.
"Uri was supposed to warn us when you left the Chasm," Zeke exclaims before telling me that they had planned out dinner for Beatrice and I.
They leave us alone to enjoy the alfredo in peace with Dauntless Cake for dessert.
"This was a nice surprise," I tell her as we sit on my bed after dinner.
"I didn't plan the food," she says snuggling closer. "I just wanted you to see me in a Dauntless outfit."
"And what if I prefer the dress off of you?"
She gives me a sly grin before slipping off the dress.
A knock at my door pulls us out of the bliss of being together. We jump from my bed, and slip our clothes back on before I answer the door to find Natalie and James on the other side.
"I hate to be the bearer of bad news," Natalie says, "but it's time for us to go, Beatrice."
Beatrice takes the clothes that Natalie is holding, and heads to my bathroom to change into the Abnegation outfit she normally wears. As she walks to the bathroom door, I am struck yet again by the amount of muscle she has managed to build up since my choosing day last year.
I walk with them to the busses, but there are none to be seen.
"How are you getting home?" I ask them.
Natalie turns to Beatrice, "Do you want to learn how to get on the trains?"
Of course Natalie would know how to hop into a train car. She used to be Dauntless herself. Plus, this way I could spend a little more time with Beatrice because I could ride with them until we reach the hub.
I look at my watch, "We have about ten minutes until the train reaches the closest point of the tracks to us."
Natalie nods, and we start to jog over to the tracks. I climb on easily, and assist Natalie and Beatrice in climbing aboard before walking to a corner to avoid seeing the rise of the tracks. The train ride gives us about an extra hour together, but all too soon, it's time for them to jump off onto the platform and say goodbye.
I take her face in my hands and give her a gentle kiss goodbye.
"Next time I see you," she grins, "it'll be for good."
"I love you," I say for the first time.
Beatrice pauses staring at me, and for a moment, I'm afraid that she doesn't feel the same, even though I should know better.
"It's about time," she says finally. "I didn't think you'd ever say it."
I relase a nervous laugh, "I guess it just took me longer than it should have."
She shakes her head at me, "I love you too, Tobias."
Hearing her say those words filled me with a happy feeling that I have never truly felt before.
"I'm going to miss you."
She pulls me into a kiss before saying, "I'll miss you too, but this will be our last goodbye."
It's time for them to jump, so I simply wave at them as they descend from the platform wishing that it was her choosing day already so that I wouldn't have to say goodbye ever again.
