James isn't surprised when he sees me enter his office.
"I already heard about the incident," is the greeting I receive. "Zeke told me last night after he saw it on his screen."
Thank goodness it was Zeke who saw it. I don't need anyone else from the control room knowing about my relationship with Tris until after initiation is over. I'm already worried about her enough.
"Could he tell who the second attacker was?" I ask. "Tris stopped Eric, but the other one got away."
"What were you and Tris doing wandering the halls together at night?" he asks rather than answering my question.
I take a deep breath before telling my grandfather about the baby. He is disappointed in us, but even his disappointment can't hide the excitement plastered across his face. I figured he'd be excited about this after Shauna's miscarriage a few months ago.
"Don't tell Zeke yet," I add. "Tris and I are going to make our friends guess, and we have a bet on who will figure it out first."
He shakes his head in amusement before telling me to head off to breakfast so that I can eat before dealing with the initates.
I see that Tris isn't in the Cafeteria when I arrive, so I hope that she has already eaten and gone to the hallway.
"Christina," I call out from the simulation room. I chose to bring her in first to get her away from Tris a little longer. Gotta even the score a little since I haven't gotten to talk to Zeke yet.
"You know," Christina says as soon as I close the door behind her. "It's kind of easy to figure things out when she can't even enter the dining hall, and Dauntless Cake is apparently the only thing that will settle her stomach."
Well that ruins my plot to get Zeke to guess first. Then I realize what she said about entering the dining hall.
"What do you mean she can't enter the dining hall?"
"Too many scents all at once," is her response. "My aunt had the same issue when she had my little cousin three years ago."
From there we take care of her simulation, the moths again.
At the end of the day, Tris suggests that we tell all of our friends at dinner. She insists on trying to eat in the dining hall, but as I try to tell our friends the news, she has to rush out. I hope that things don't stay like this for too long. Tris needs to be able to eat and keep it down.
Playing Never Have I Ever was kind of fun except the part where I ended up revealing where I come from. To be honest, though, I'm amazed that they haven't figured it out already just by the fact that Tris and I knew each other before my initiation.
I keep an eye on Zeke for as long as I can think to, but eventually I get too drunk to really pay attention to his mood. I just want to make sure that he's okay because he had taken Shauna's miscarriage harder than anyone else did.
"Never have I ever kissed an initiate," Zeke says. Obviously this round is for me, but it's worded vague enough that most of our friends drink too.
After that, we decide that it's time for everyone to leave, but for some reason, my alcohol muddled brain forgets that I'm already at home. Tris has to grab my hand and lead me to the bed to stop me from leaving.
The next morning I wake to a migraine and the sounds of someone vomiting. I look around the room for Tris only to realize that the sound I hear is coming from the bathroom where I find her bent over the toilet.
Seeing her, I completely forget my pain. I know that no matter what I feel right now, she is probably feeling worse. I pull her hair back and rub my hand up and down her back until she's able to sit up straight.
