chapter forty-one
♟
"...will.. will you marry me, then?"
(Y/N) tilted her head a bit in an attempt to watch the brunette's lips move along with the words that he have recently spoken. Both of the ends of her lips twitch, her cognition disallowing her from sketching the appropriate emotion to depict on her face for what he just said.
Haru flinched after feeling soft fingers digging into the fragility of his shoulder blades. His amber irises dropped in an instant with the sudden realization that it was her who was inflicting that kind of sensation on his body. The hold that he has resided on her back faltered as he helplessly watched the young woman placed her head on his chest.
Her lips were pursed into a tight line, her ear pressed against his clothes while she listened carefully to the rhythm of his heartbeat.
Fast.
It was as if he was being chased and his lungs were begging for him to stop sprinting. His blood failed to deliver the sufficient oxygen into his brain for it to process properly. All he could do was observe her fixing her composure to stare right back at his eyes.
"Haru, are you.. are you familiar with the generic lines of a wedding vow?"
The said boy tried to eradicate the whir buzzing that he could clearly hear in his head as he snap his self out to focus on her sudden question. Although he wasn't sure if it was a rhetorical one wherein he doesn't need to state his answer, he still insisted on shaking his head.
"Till death do us part..." (Y/N)'s arms freed the brunette's shoulders as her own sentence trailed. The volume of her voice softened with the color of her eyes while she blinked repeatedly.
"We're going to part ways from each other in two months, Haru."
Despite the despair that seeped desperately in each of the letters that she mumbled, she still managed to plaster an apologetic smile on her face which crushed the poor boy's heart. With this, Haru also persuaded him self to grin in hopes to uplift the (h/c)-nette in this very moment.
"I can magically make that into a hundred years!" The young woman was about to react with this seemingly childish and idiotic statement but was halted when she felt her feet being lifted from the ground. It was late for her to realize this fact since Haru has successfully carried her like his bride.
"Hey! Put me down you-" Once again, she was cut off after sensing the male nuzzling his nose on hers. A scowl was now visibly drawn on her embarrassed face while a part of her was a little mesmerized with how he skillfully support her weight with just his arms.
Haru's grin was replaced with a small shy smile as he gazed down on the female's expression. Her (e/c) orbs twinkled in a rather mesmerizing way under his apartment's cheap fluorescent lighting.
"P..Please stay here for the night, (Y/N)..."
•••
"Good night, Melvin."
The (h/c) haired girl patted the fowl's head and its body vibrated in satisfaction. Melvin's beady eyes glanced at its owner like it was saying the greeting back at her. It buried its feet on the small gaps of the couch to minimize the coldness that was terrorizing the area.
(Y/N) placed both of her hands on her knees and used it to easily stand. She gave her precious pet an another peek before turning her heels on the opposite direction. Her sight locked on the plain white door on one of the rooms of the bachelor pad, entering it afterwards.
She beamed at the view of a sleeping Haru on the futon that he set on the floor beside his bed. Even though she actually insisted on napping on it instead since she was practically the one crashing at his place, he still gave her a reassurance that she should be using his bed because she was a guest.
Who is she to complain though? Fluffy beds are her best friend.
The young woman slowly laid her body on the mattress; her movements were calculated to avoid disturbing the subtle snores that slipped past the male's throat. Immediately, the soft fabric of the duvet pulled her into a trance of comfort as the feathery texture of his pillow tickled the side of her cheeks.
The boy's room was very silent at this time, considering the fact that it was already an hour after midnight. With the moon's never fading yellow light pooling on the planked floors, it gave her a clear view of the dust spiraling peacefully along the wind. Her fingers grasped on the blanket as her (e/c) irises paved around the vast night sky outside the boy's apartment window. It was being illuminated with the proud beaming of the stars, contrasting with the darkness that the heavens were offering.
She shuffled on her current position, the thin blanket slipping away from her torso. Haru's smell was lingering on his bed and it was, for some reason, making her feel safe. Her eyes slowly fluttered close as she nuzzled on the pillow, looking for the perfect angle that would finally persuade her to get a shuteye.
"Hey, (Y/N)."
She propped her arms on the mattress after hearing the brunette's groggy voice calling for her attention. A hum was what she responded as she inched her head closer towards the corner of her bed to look down at the male that was still lying on the floor to give him a sign to continue his sentence.
"I watched a science fiction movie earlier.. and it was about a guy finding his self on another dimension. Everything about that place was the same with his own, except the people there never dies."
Haru placed both of his hands behind his head in order for it to be elevated. He cleared his throat, desperately fighting the sleepiness that was slowly gripping on his consciousness.
"..do you.. do you think if that dimension exists for real.. our parallel selves would end up together?"
Silence. This was what he received with the question that he mumbled loud enough for the young woman to hear him. His finger landed on one of his cheek, his nail scratching on it as he faced his body to the side in embarrassment for not getting any response.
As he was about to just sleep this hollow feeling rotting in the pits of his stomach, his ears perked upon hearing some shuffling made on top of his bed. However, before he could even check on the source of the sound, warmth was wrapped around his waist.
"We'll see about that if we'll get there. We're going to visit that dimension together, okay?"
Haru shifted his body so that he could completely face the (h/c)-nette without taking her arm away from him. (Y/N) was already laying on his futon on the floor and was now beside him. He could visibly see her smiling ever so lightly. Their position right now made it look like the girl was taller than him since his eyes were on level with the collar of her shirt.
His heart was once again beating so loud that he could hear it thumping against his rib-cage. He moved closer towards her before burying his face on the crook of her neck, his hair brushing against her jaw as she felt his fingers gripping on the back of her clothes like some scared little kid.
