chapter thirteen
♟
"Alright, Melvin.. Behave for today, okay? Some important people are going to visit here."
(Y/N) crouched down to get a better access on the little chicken suit that she bought for her dearly beloved pet as she fixed its tie. Melvin cackled before it started to run in circles again, flapping its wings like it could actually fly.
Currently, the young woman is in one of the Kambe's owned buildings because Daisuke will be holding a meeting with some of their family's investors. She really does not know why she was needed here since she only writes his case reports in his detective schemes. Even if she did reason this out to the boy, he still stood on his stance that she is required to attend for work.
Light footsteps were now heard, signing the young woman to ready her self. She clutched her fingers on the handle of the sliding door and opened it to let in whoever it is that was coming.
"Good mor-" Her lips were pursed in embarrassment after witnessing no one outside the door. She poked her head out of the french door curtains to see the hallway empty, realizing that the foot steps were actually just from Melvin.
As she was about to close the door and go back inside to wait again, the chicken noticed the opening. In an instant, Melvin dashed past her and out of the room. She caught a glimpse of what seems like a running chicken and before she knew it, she was already trying to stop the fowl.
"Melvin! Come back here!" An exhausted huff trailed out of her lips as she exerted too much effort in sprinting. She was never a fan of exercising and now it seems like her laziness is backfiring her since she's already running out of breath despite the fact that it was just half a minute after she started chasing the rooster.
Daisuke, on the other hand, placed both of his hands on the small of his back as he guided the two visitors towards the office. The guests were currently busy chitchatting with each other while occasionally asking small questions to the man to which he responds with sophisticated and precise answers.
As they were about to turn a corner, a chicken suddenly popped out of nowhere. This surprised Daisuke but he immediately figured out that it was his employee's pet. Before he could apologize to the guests, Melvin paused on its running just in front of the visitors and aggressively squawked at them.
"MELV-" (Y/N) was not a given a chance to finish her angered calling for her beloved when there was a shocked holler. She jolted towards where the scream came from, only to see two very confused and scared elderly while a certain ravenette was trying to calm the chicken down.
"Oh my- I'm so so sorry!" Heaving in a deep breath, she proceeded to get ahold of Melvin, patting its head to pacify and cool its behavior down. In complete panic and discomfiture, she politely bowed towards the three to show a sign of apology.
"I'm very sorry, it was very impolite of me." Traces of nervousness laced each of her words as she stayed on her bowing position for a few more seconds before fixing her composure.
The guests did not say anything since they were still staggering from the unexpected turn of events in a place owned by the most respectable man in the nation. A chicken suddenly arriving out of nowhere in an urbane-styled skyscraper is very bizarre that it sent the visitors into a train of confusion and disbelief. The old man simply gave (Y/N) a single nod before assisting his wife to walk past the young woman.
She was about to release another word of regret but she can't get anything to slip out of her mouth. She knew so well that this was her fault and she feels very guilty. Her sight immediately landed on a set of ice-blue orbs that was observing her movement. Before she can start talking to the ravenette, he shifted his sight away from her and followed his guests to resume their conversation.
Daisuke looks.. disappointed.
