Chapter V

I ran away from the hotel trying to find the car rental place. People were still walking around town but it really wasn't that late. Looked at my watch and it showed that the time was 6:30. I looked back and I still didn't see the IPSF officers. 'Good,' I thought, 'they haven't found out where I've went.'

Hoping that they wouldn't find out my path soon I ran up to some guy in a long coat and a fedora that covered his face.

"Hello sir, would you point the way to the car rental place," I asked him in a hurry. Instead of answering me the man yelled out, "The rental place! Why haven't I thought of that! Dude you probably just saved my life," he hugged me and then started running, almost tripping over his coat.

Recovering from the stranger's hug I started to run after him. The guy ran fast ad didn't slow down for a break between blocks. He ran as if he'd been running for his entire life. He kept running and I kept following thankfully I didn't lose sight of him.

Just a few blocks away from the hotel we found the car rental place, but it was closed. I wondered how I was supposed to rent a car now. The guy however went through the door of the rental place so I followed him. Inside there was a small desk and behind that desk was the man, who now was looking through the drawers of the desk searching for keys.

Soon the man jumped up and yelled, "Found some," and he ran straight out the door not paying attention to me. I quickly ran behind the desk. There was a drawer open and it was full of keys. I quickly grabbed one and ran out the door.

Outside I found the man in the parking lot left of the car rental building, looking for his car by seeing which car responded to his keys. I did the same, luckily my car was the closest to the exit of the lot. I quickly opened the car with my keys and jumped in.

As I sat in front of the wheel, my mind went blank. I couldn't remember how to drive a car. I quickly looked for the place to put the key and started the car. As my engine turned on so did an engine further down the lot. I looked in that direction and saw a car zoom past mine. I quickly moved my feet around trying to find the gas pedal remembering that there was such a thing. As I slammed my foot on the pedal I took a quick right onto the road.

The only car on the road was the other man's car, which was zooming toward the edge of Renville. I followed quickly after him. Both cars didn't slow at the lights or at the stop sins, we just kept driving. Soon we were outside the town and away from trouble at least for a while.

Ahead I saw that the other guy's car was slowing down so I also did by lifting my foot of the pedal. Then I felt strangely comfortable in the car.

We kept driving and driving, getting further away from Renville. About 50 miles out I turned on the car radio hoping there would be a song to soothe me a bit more, instead I had the un-soothing nasal voice of Officer Louie.

"This is a nationwide warning. Recently we have found an EXT and he has escaped from Renville, Oregon. We suspect that he is travelling eastbound so to escape us. The EXT looks normal except for one thing, his eyes, which have no distinct color. We need this EXT found so that he can't harm our population. Notify us at the sight of any weird man and-". I quickly turned the radio off. I was now a wanted EXT, whatever that was. I had no idea how to react to this. I would have to hide now, forever.

I didn't have much time to do anything about it because the man's car in front of me stopped. I quickly slammed the brakes. I stopped right in back of the man's car and saw him get out of his car and come straight toward me.
