My first month in St. Joseph was ephemeral.
My family has this habit of dining out every month kahit madalas ay si Mommy lang ang kasama namin ni Miko since Dad is working overseas while Mom's a professor in a university.
The driver drove us to a fancy restaurant.
"Three minutes." Her voice really sounded like a villain in a novel.
"Let us slide Mom. Three minutes din lang naman kaming late." Miko reasoned out.
That means, I have to kiss her as well! E amoy alak nga ako. The least thing I wanna do right now is to go near her.
I was about to give her a peck on her cheek as well when she moved her face away from me.
"You are reek of alcohol, Raniyah." she said, stressing every word she uttered.
But I know, Mom won't go easy on me with this.
"Updates."
Miko put down his utensils and began talking about his activities for the entire month.
What's the point of lying?
"Rank things according to its importance, Raniyah." abiso niya na ikinatango ko lang nang marahan.
Mom will always be like that. She never gets mad at 'yon ang pareho naming kinatatakutan ni Miko.
Whenever we commit mistakes, she only wants one thing. The truth. And after hearing the truth, she'd only give us a word. It may seem like she's not that scary because she never scolds us but no. Her presence itself is already scary and her words are enough to make us tremble in fear.
Paano pa kaya kung magalit siya? 'Yon ang ayaw kong mangyari.
"You know, parents are like that Rain.
That's the truth." she said and chugged the beer.
Step here, holds prejudices against parents. Hearing her side isn't that dependable.
Everytime we take our dinner, I'm already expecting that she would ask about St. Joseph which is very doubting. Usually, she'd just want to hear my activities for the entire month and wouldn't say a thing.
He's doing his plates while I'm trying to distract myself through reviewing.
Midterm examination is approaching and I need to review. I seriously thought that this course would be easy but no. This course is quite demanding. My professors are all doctorates. Imagine their skyrocketing standards. Ugh.
I heaved a deep sigh again.
