Christmas morning...
The difference in the weather is clearly evident the moment they stepped out of the conditioned air of the Karbi airport. Not as scorching hot as the summer, yet lot warmer than Bangkok Christmas air.
The ten of them – Jason, Simon, Tae, Tee, Kimmon, Copter, Godt, Bas, Joss, and of course Poom – filed into the airport pick up arranged by Jason's hotel. Paradise Island – it said in the large sticker pasted on the van's body.
They spend one hour drive from the airport to the hotel, enjoying the scenery. It's different from Phuket, the four people from the south agreed. Phuket is more refined and sophisticated while Krabi offers wild rustic pleasure, Tae clarified.
Most of all they enjoyed the precious family time together.
"Here we are!" Jason perked up seeing a large wooden sign – Paradise Island.
"Wow!" Tae whispered in awe.
"I thought this was a hotel?" Copter took in the expanse of empty space dotted with mini cottages.
"It's a waste of resources to cut all the natural vegetation and make this a grand hotel," Simon explained as the van stopped. "Besides, people come here to enjoy the rustic, true beauty of Krabi nature," He grinned jumping out of the van.
"How many cottages are there?" Tae glanced around the area.
"There are about twenty-five," Simon shaded his eyes from the afternoon sun. "And they're not exactly cottages. They are semi-luxury mini villas."
Kimmon whistled.
The rest of the group is out of the van and enjoying the breeze and the constant sounds of crashing waves.
"Leave the bag," Jason called heading towards the reception, taking the lead. "They will be delivered to the villas."
Everyone is in awe at the place. Jason must be loaded to actually build a place like this.
"Welcome to Karbi, Khun!"
A man rushed forward to greet Jason. Considering his attire he might be the manager.
"How are things, Pravat?" Jason started walking with him. Then he turned back. "I'll be right back. The staff will help you with check-in." He uttered those words and resumed his walk.
"Welcome to Krabi!" Beautiful girls in traditional Thai attires greeted them with warm, friendly smiles.
They were escorted to the open lobby area where sprawling sandy beaches are clearly visible through thinly clustered tall coconut trees.
"Wow, this is heavenly!" Godt sat down with a sigh.
"Mmmm... it's very different from home, true..." Bas murmured sitting next to him.
