"what do you want to talk about?" i asked, munching into my lasagne. i couldn't help but think about dad. is he going to be okay? im pretty sure the guy that he hit will press charges against him. after mom died, we've been pretty low on the financial part. we could always use my college funds but if i do that, i need to get a scholarship by this month.

"what are you thinking about?" he suddenly asked. i let out a sigh and fiddled with my fingers.

"about the charges. you know we could always use my college funds, right? but i need to get a scholarship. i have so many questions, collin. where will i stay with a legal guardian? is he really going to-" collin smacked my hand to stop my rambling.

"sorry." i mumbled.

he gave me a nod and a grin. "that's what i'm here to talk to you about. mom wants to be your guardian until you're 18. next, mom also wants you to engage in therapy. she's going to pay for all of it." he explained.

i shook my head. "no." that's too much to accept. lord knows that i owe their family a lot already after my bad behavior before.

"too bad. mom already set it up." he chuckled.

i gasped. "i can't let her pay for everything!"

"listen, lily. my mom treats you like a daughter more than she treats me like her son-" i gave him a look of disbelief and told him to carry on. "-she's not obligated to do this in the first place but she's willing to do it anyway."

and that shut me up for the rest of the time.
