I was sitting on the bus
And all of a sudden
Something popped up on my phone
An AirDrop alert
It was a black screen with "hi" written on it
Of course I answered with a classic "aloha"
Their phones name was: "D'a phone"
Which didn't reveal much
But they quickly answered with an other airdrop
"my names Devon, I'm the guy with the brown jacket behind you"
Sure enough
There he was
Waving at me
God he was handsome
"Oh yeah, my names Maïa, I'm on my way home, you?"
"Same here, mind if I ask for your number? I'm not usually this forward but covid has made it pretty hard when it comes to dating"
"Yeah sure"Of course none of this happened. Romance doesn't exist here. It's drunken one nights, Straight girls, clingy guys and assholes. I've never been asked on a date, but if I had a penny for every time someone wanted to come over and fuck I'd own amazon. I know romance is out there, just not here. Romance died when the people here forgot what dates, open minds, good music, education and manners were. That's ok. Some people are comfortable being ignorant. I'm the one who's going to have to go away to find other people like me.
