Hi!
I wanted to let you know guys that while I finish writing chapter 18 (I had to rewrite it like 3 times because I was never satisfied with it lol) I decided to upload this "bonus chapter" in the meanwhile. It's narrated from Annabeth's perspective on the third person so that you guys can get an insight into what was going on days previous to Percy's banish. If you like this idea, please let me know in the comments!
*Camp Half-Blood, Long Island*
|Annabeth Chase; Third Person|
For the first time in her life, Annabeth felt embarrassed to call her siblings children of Athena. Said children were supposed to be wise, analytical, and able to employ the use of logic. And right now, Annabeth felt as if she was being the only logical one amongst her siblings.
The whole situation just didn't make sense to her. Around a week ago, a boy had shown up at camp's borders, his breathing ragged and his clothes tattered to shreds. At first glance, Annabeth knew something was off; the boy claimed to have been chased down by some "demon ladies", who clawed at his body as they tried to grab him. However, he didn't sustain any injuries from the attack, not even a single scratch. After being asked about it by Annabeth, the boy (whose name she later found out was Jax) had claimed he had barely missed their talons.
Percy had immediately taken him under his wing, probably feeling sympathetic for the poor kid, despite the boy being only two years younger. Jax had gladly allowed him, choosing to spend every second of the day by his side, which unnerved Annabeth. She had no clue why she doubted the boy's intentions so much, but there was something about him that unsettled her.
Not even a week later, while everyone was having lunch at the dining pavilion, a glowing sea-green aura had appeared above Jax's head. Everyone promptly kneeled down, and Annabeth found herself feeling exhaustion creeping onto her muscles, yet unable to explain why. Shaking her head, she tried to focus on what was happening, training her eyes towards the top of the new son of Poseidon's head. She felt a shiver running down her spine as soon as she noticed a terrifying fact: where the trident belonging to the god os the sea should be, there was nothing else but a puff of green smoke, simulating Poseidon's claiming.
Annabeth slowly turned her head to the sides, watching everyone around her as they all stared in Jax's direction. Said demigod was smiling from ear to ear, an act that chilled Annabeth to the bones, and as he turned to look at where she was, the daughter of Athena tried to imitate her siblings' expressions, hoping she seemed as enchanted as the looked.
"All hail, Jax... something", Chiron muttered, his eyebrows scrunched in confusion as if he could sense something was wrong, yet his eyes were as misty as the others. "Son of the sea god".
For a couple of seconds, the eerie silence continued, and then all hell broke loose. It seemed as if the incantation Jax had cast over everyone had suddenly disappeared, because as soon as the glowing smoking above his head dissipated, so did any trace left of any silence.
Still, everybody seemed to be thoroughly convinced that Jax, was in fact, Poseidon's son. As she turned to examine her boyfriend's expression, Annabeth tried to keep her composure, not completely aware of what she had just witnessed.
Percy was blinking non-stop as if trying to make sense of what had just happened. As everything started to quiet down (thanks to Chiron, obviously), a wide grin broke upon his face, and he ran and enveloped the recently claimed demigod in a hug.
Percy's happiness seemed to be genuine, yet the creepy smile plastered on Jax's face as he returned the hug made Annabeth's gut twist in trepidation, dreading what would come next.
