1.Coffee

SOPHIA

It was Thursday afternoon and I was getting ready to go get coffee with my friend that I have not spoken to in a few months. My college friend, Amanda, decided that caffeine in the middle of the day was a good idea as she picked this spot for us. Her whereabouts did not include me for the past few months, because of some mental issues on her part. Amanda prefers not to speak about that, and I know not to pry so I respect her privacy and did not take the distance to heart.

To prepare myself for this reencounter, I shower and get dressed as quickly as I can. Once I look presentable, I grab my keys and I am out the door. Before starting the car I make sure to text Amanda I am on my way so I am not waiting in the coffee shop by myself. I arrive at Café Express and search for a mop of dirty blonde curls.

"Sophie!"

With a few seconds of scanning the room as if I was a robot looking for my target, I finally spot who is calling me.

I quickly shuffle over to the booth she chose for us and I sit across from the familiar face.

"Hey, Amanda," I say with a warm smile on my face.

"How have you been, Soph?"

"I've been alright I guess. How about you, I feel like I haven't seen you in forever?"

"Well it has been six months," she says while looking down at her hands as if she feels embarrassed or slightly ashamed.

In an attempt to not let the conversation go down a dark path I just playfully say," Ah, yes. Those six months would account for this forever feeling I am experiencing." She dryly chuckles and smiles.

"Yes, so what have you been up to, Sophia?"

My mouth runs dry and my mind goes blank for a second, but then a tsunami of memories from the past six months wash over me.

"Where do I start?"
