"Heyy, how's my favourite boy?", Dasom speaks as she walks inside the house and looks at her grandchild.
Chansol watches her with big eyes, making Jeongguk smile lovingly at the baby in his arms.
"Hi, Jeongguk! How are you? Everything's alright?", she asks the young male then, still a big, friendly smile evident on her face. Jeongguk can't help but think again what a nice person this woman is.
He returns her smile and answers honestly, "Everything's alright. I'm really happy with this job."
And it's true. He's content with his job. Since their actual conversation last weekend, things went great between them. Of course, Taehyung still doesn't talk too much but he doesn't ignore Jeongguk anymore.
The more he talks with the older male, the more he wants to wash the pain and sadness on his face away. He doesn't deserve this.
Taehyung deserves a family, the family he wanted to build with his love that was taken away from him. And Chansol deserves a mother and a father.
Jeongguk tries to give the boy as much love and affection as possible to let him know that he's loved. If his real parents aren't able to give that to him at the moment, Jeongguk will do it. And maybe someday in the future, Taehyung's able to love his son.
"Where's Taehyung?", Dasom asks as they enter the living room, Chansol securely in Dasom's arms.
"I think he's still showering. He came home earlier today. I'll put Chansol to bed when he's finished.", Jeongguk responds while he takes out a glass from the cupboard for Dasom.
Dasom nods, a pained look on her face as she asks, "Still no progression? Not even being in the same room at least?"
Jeongguk shakes his head. "No, sadly not. I put him to bed during the time Taehyung comes back home, so that he doesn't have to see him. He told me that he doesn't want to have him near."
Dasom sits down on the couch and lets out a sigh. "Do you think he can ever accept or even love him?"
She softly rocks the baby in her arms, looking at the boy with a sad smile before she turns her attention back to Jeongguk, waiting for an answer.
Jeongguk nods convinced. "Yes, I do believe that. I think that everything's just too much for him at the moment. He needs time and I'm here to give it to him. I'll look after Chansol as long as I'm needed."
Dasom sends him a genuine smile. "I really hope that you're right."
Right at that moment, the sound of someone unlocking a door can be heard, meaning that Taehyung's apparently finished his shower.
Jeongguk hurries over to Chansol, places the glass filled with water on the table in front of her and takes the baby into his arms.
"I'll bring him to bed now.", he tells Dasom. She nods and smiles one last time at the baby, "Good night, my love."
Jeongguk leaves the room quickly, so that there wouldn't be an incident with Taehyung again.
As he arrives in the baby's room he lays him down into the crib. Jeongguk looks at the small boy whose eyes betray him and want to fall shut despite the boy's efforts to keep them open.
"Sleep tight, little man.", Jeongguk whispers almost inaudible, before leaving the room and softly closing the door behind himself.
He makes his way down, only to be greeted with Dasom's laughter as he enters the living room. "Ahh Jeongguk, you're back. Come here, sit down a bit hm?", Dasom offers, as she spots him.
"I have to wash the dishes, they're in the sink, still unwashed.", he declines with a friendly smile.
Even if Dasom wants him to sit down and talk with them that doesn't mean Taehyung wants that too. They get along better but he's still unsure about how far he can go and what Taehyung's comfortable with.
So it was a surprise as he hears the older male speak up, "I can help you later with them. You've done enough today. Sit down a bit."
And even though Taehyung's talking with his usual monotone voice, Jeongguk can't help but feel touched by the other's word.
He doesn't even know why it makes him so happy. Jeongguk tries to restrain himself from smiling like an idiot as makes his way to the couch. Why was he like that?
Confused about himself, he sits down beside Dasom and joins their conversation.
Since he's started working here, he's somehow always thought that Taehyung doesn't have a particularly good relationship with his mother. Or at least he thought Taehyung would be distant and cold.
But he was in the wrong. Even though, Taehyung wasn't more talkative as usual, Jeongguk could see the way he's looking at his mother. It's a gaze full of adoration.
Jeongguk has never seen this kind of expression in Taehyung's eyes. But it shows him, how much the older loves his mother and how important she's to him.
This realization puts a smile on his face. It makes him happy to see that Taehyung has his mother who's there for him and who won't leave him alone. Oh how, he wishes Taehyung could look at his son the way he looks at his mother.
Taehyung would be such a great dad, Jeongguk's sure about that. Seeing how much love his eyes can hold, shows him that. Chansol has the greatest dad he could wish for.
The type of dad to do everything for their child, to love their child endlessly. Taehyung is like that. Jeongguk knows it. He just has to bring it to the surface.
And it was exactly this moment, on the couch in the living room where Jeongguk realizes two things:
One, Taehyung is a great person. He's definitely not the mean person Jeongguk met. He's full of love. And Jeongguk's sure he loves his son, even if Taehyung himself doesn't realize it at the moment. It's the grief inside him that destroys Taehyung slowly. He's hurt, so hurt.
Two, Jeongguk wants Taehyung to be happy.
