Bettys pov
I'm shaking and shocked and happy, and nervous and overwhelmed. But for once I let my heart take over from my head, "Yes!," I tell him. He gets up and slides the gorgeous 3-carat diamond ring onto my finger. Then I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him with more passion, fire and joy than I ever had. He goes over to the table and blows the candles out. Then picks me up and I wrap my legs around his torso. "I love you Juggy," I whisper. "I love you more," he says before again pressing his lips to mine and walking backwards until we reach the living room sofa.At about 4 am, I wake up entangled in Jugs arms, legs and a woollen blanket. The couch was cool against my bare skin and I carefully untangled myself. I am starving, and thirsty. I grab leftover pasta and a glass of water from the fridge and eat naked at the kitchen bench. It's cold, so I take the discards of clothing from Jughead and I's frivolous night and get dressed. Then I go upstairs and call Veronica. "B, why are you up it's four in the morning," she grumbles, "are you ok? Is Emily?" Shit, I completely forgot about how early it was, "Sorry V, I can callback latter." "No," she says with a neutral tone, "just tell me now." "I got engaged." She screams through the line and I hear Archie wake up and ask if she's ok? She endearingly says she's fine and tells him to go back to sleep. I hear a door shut on her end of the call, and she immediately says, "WHERE! WHEN! HOW!" I explain the night to her and tell her that we want it to be in one month, the day that we officially met. "Betty... I am so happy for you." "Thanks, V. Anyway I have to go, but let's talk soon." "For sure. Bye."
Jughead walks up behind me and wraps his arms around me. "Hey Baby, what are you doing up?" he asks me groggily. "Nothing," I say and he picks me up and walks us into the theater room and throws me on top of him.
We wake up to the sound of little feet and voices running up the stairs. I am full dressed, but Jug is completely naked. He takes the blanket and wraps it around his waist and we sit up. "Mommy! Daddy!" Emily yells coming at us. "Hey bear!" Jug says and she runs up and sits on his lap. I walk downstairs to thank Cheryl and Toni, and as soon as I get down there Cheryl squeals, takes my hand and says, "Cousin Betty, it' s gorgeous." The sun shone brightly onto my ring, and the light reflected into a million rays of hopes and dreams. "Thanks," I say and blush. We talk about a few meaningless things, until Jug walks downstairs with Emily on his hip, fully dressed for work. I give Cheryl and Toni both a hug and go get changed myself.
Jug and I drive silently in the car, holding hands. That simple gesture speaks louder than any words ever could. When we arrive at the bar, I get Emily out of the backseat and we walk inside. Ritually, Jug gives both Emily and I a kiss and walks up the stairs. Ever since 'The Ghoulie scare', he has increased security from the serpents over Emily and I, and as protective as they are, subtle, they are not. As I handed a glass to mustang, he grabs my hand and says, "Holy shit you got engaged." I nod with a smile, but then he looks towards Emily and says, "that was a bad word. Don't tell your dad I said it," he genuinely pleads with her. "What's in it for me?" Emily asks back and I laugh. He goes around the back of the bar and takes out a packet of lollies. Emily's eyes widen and hold out her hands. "Ok!" She says. He gives her the packet but she can't open it. "Hey!" She says as he walks away, "Never said I would open it." Emily looks to me and I sigh and open the bag. Fangs comes over and says, "I was watching that whole thing, and she has got you wrapped around her finger." "I know," I admit.
All the serpents heads turn towards the entrance where a limo come pulling up. V gets out of the car and we both squeal and run towards each other. "V!" I say when we enter an embrace. She pulls forth my hand and looks at the ring. "Betty Cooper you scored big!" We both laugh and she looks around the bar. She has dropped me off at work, but she has never actually been inside. Her eyes scan the room and when she sees Emily she walks up to her and lifts her off the counter. Most serpents go back to what they are doing, but the few that are supposed to be watching over Emily's protection continue to watch. "Betty! She has grown so big!" Veronica exclaims. "I know right," I tell her back. Veronica turns to me and says, "You ready to go?" "Mhmm," I reply back, "Hey guys, can you watch over Emily, or just offload her on Jug." They nod and I pass her to Sweet Pea. As Veronica and I begin to leave, two serpents follow, "You're not coming," I tell them. They look at each other and then the one on the left says, "We have strict and direct orders from the King." I roll my eyes and say, "Well he's not here right now. I am... so, stay please." They reluctantly fall back and I continue with Veronica. At the mall, we look at colour schemes, locations, vendors and other wedding things. Vs instead on making my dress, and I said I would be honoured.
4 hours later we return to the bar. V drops me off and says her goodbyes. When I walk inside, I hear Emily crying inconsolably. I rush up to her and say, "What wrong Bear?" Fangs walks up behind me and hands me a letter that read...
To my dearest Betty,
With the heaviest of hearts, I have no choice but to leave Riverdale. The Ghoolies have threatened the life of our daughter. If I was to leave riverdale, and by association... you and Emily. They will keep her safe. I am not sure how long I will be gone for, and I am not sure where I will go. But know just how much I love you and our daughter. I will be back one day, and hopefully I am not to late and you will be my wife. There is so much to say, but unfortunately very little time to say it. You will always be protected. You will always be happy. And you will always be loved.Love Jug.
