"Hey, can we talk?" asked my father as he knocked on the door, probably feeling some sort of regret for his behavior towards me. "No!" I yelled back and turned over the first page of the book, but still I was curious to know what he had to say.

"Okay, I know this might be a hard time for you ever since your mother's passing and all" said my father as he just waltzed into my room without giving me a chance to say that he could come in.

"Isaac, I know you have been going through a rough time" said my father as he sat down on my bed with a drink in his hand, "Wow, you decorated here already!" said my father out of the blue as I neatly placed my book away and adjusted my position to listen to what he had to say.

"I know you have been going through a rough time..." said my father once again, after admiring my bedroom for way to long!

"What do you want to say dad?" I snapped as I clearly saw he had taken a few too many drinks, "Oh, sorry" replied my father and struggled to keep his eyes on me as he spoke. "You know I loved your mother and I want only the best for you" said my father as his eyes rolled around. "Yeah, I know" I replied and grabbed my father's hand as I saw the shadow of his wife coming from the end of the hallway.

Stubborn as I was, I used the situation to my advantage. "Can I celebrate maybe celebrate my birthday here next weekend?" I asked as I gave my father a hug, just in time for his wife to see. "Yes, of course" mumbled my father and took a sip of his drink over my shoulder.

"Aw! You guys!" said my father's wife in the doorway and placed her hand on her chest, while taking a sip of her drink.

"What kind of party are you thinking?" asked my father and finished his drink with a loud gut-wrenching grunt, "Just a pool party I think!" I replied quickly, almost too quick I think?

"When was your birthday?" asked my father after thinking for a while and got up from my bed and walked over to his wife. "Today..." I replied and grabbed my book again to read, "Today!?" said my stepmother in a thick English accent and lightly slapped my father's back.

"Trudy! Trudy! Can you bake a cake for us all?" yelled my stepmother and ran with her high heels down the hallway and with two empty drinks in her hands. "Cake?" yelled Sarah as she almost tore off her bedroom door and ran after my stepmother.

"Has it really been this long?" asked my father in shock and walked away without saying anything else.

I walked downstairs to the surprise of seeing my stepmother and stepsiblings helping Trudy to make a cake for me? Even my father helped a little bit, but he just did the simple things like turning the oven on.

An hour or so later, and my cake was finished! Sarah helped with the decorations, while Casper and Jason helped my stepmother decorate the dining table for us to eat, even though we all should have been in bed right now.

Sarah's decorating skills were as creative as you could imagine. Sarah had thrown rainbow sprinkles all over the first tier and on the second, it was covered with pink icing. The top had Sarah's handwriting saying "Happy Birthday!" with blue icing, just to represent that I was a boy I guess?

"Sarah, too many girly colors!" snapped my father as he got a few glints of the cake before it was served. "Sarah don't listen to him. I love pink and rainbows" I replied and gave little Sarah a wink of insurance.

I looked back at my father's disappointed face and I could almost see the words in front of me "Dad I'm gay" just to make the situation worse for me, but I didn't have the gut or courage to say it.

My dad changed his mood however, when Sarah wanted to sit between him and I, but I swear I could almost see a smile on his face?

"So, next weekend...?" I asked and hinted that I really wanted to celebrate my birthday, even though I personally hated birthday parties. "Sure, Patricia and the rest of us are going on a trip next week anyways" replied my father and took a bite of the pinkest and most frosted layer of the cake.

"Oh ok, I swear that I'll keep it as a small party" I said almost overly excited and felt a gush of blood rushing to my face as I took a bite out of the cake. "Did you like it?" asked Sarah and lightly pulled on the end of my shirt, "Yes, I love it!" I replied and gave her a small hug and finished the slice of cake I had gotten and walked upstairs where I slammed down on bed and fell asleep.
