Two creatures scaled the North Mountain High School. They were made of shadows, and they hovered over the ground like dust. Slipping through the school, the creatures passed through walls undetected. Once they entered the principal's office they somewhat solidified themselves. Two arms appeared, cloaked in their shadows. One of the creatures rattled open the principal's file drawer.
"It'ssss unlocked." it hissed.
"Foolissshhh human." the other creature replied.
The shadow pulled out a master binder and flipped through the pages. The binder read, "Master List of Students". After a few moments, they looked up in surprise.
"There musssssst be millionsssss of people in this sssschool!!!"
"How will we know which onessss are chosssssen?"
They heard a door open down the hall.
"We mussssst find another wayyyyy."
"Let ussssss sssssscrammm!!!"
The shadows placed the binder back into the drawer and raced out of the building. They flew out into the air and climbed higher and higher into the sky.
The school janitor passed by the principal's office, pushing a cart and whistling as he went. He stopped short, thinking he had heard something. The only sound that reached his ears was the stillness of the hall. But if he had listened closer, he would have heard the dark shrieks that rose into the sky.
