"He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years." (Revelation 20:2)
"Well?" a dark, deep, menacing voice struck terror into the trembling shadow before him.
"My lord, I bow, humbled by your presssscence," the tall shadow fell towards the floor, not daring to look into the red glowing eyes of his superior.
"The chosen ones?" the voice growled.
"Myyyy lorddddd, the tassssk wasss not an easy one."
"You finished them off?"
"Myyyy Lorrrdddd, there wassss...." the shadow grimaced, and then spat out the word. "A guardian."
From the darkness emerged a man with sharp jagged wings, cloaked in pitch black, eyes glowing an eerie crimson. He walked up to the shadow and seized him, dragging him up from the floor.
"You finished them?" he asked, his voice rising in volume.
"No myyy lorrrddd, there were-" the shadow gulped. "Annnnngggeeellllssssss."
The shadow was thrown across the room.
"You have failed me."
"Myyyyy lorrrrddddd, myy troooopsss, weee wiiill tryyy aggainnnn."
"You will!" he snarled. "And if you fail, I will make sure that you regret it for the rest of your life." He fingered the formidable sword at his side. "A very short life it may be."
"So, let me get this straight. If you hold your breath, and imagine where you want to go, you can teleport there?" Xale asked.
"Pretty much, except I can only teleport as far as I can hold my breath. Therefore, it's nearly impossible to teleport through thick walls," Eloise confirmed.
"But still, that's pretty cool!" Xale exclaimed, taking another bite out of his chocolate chip cookie.
"And what were those demons you were talking about?" Ley asked.
"The shadows that you all have been seeing? Well, they've been watching you, every time you use your powers. They're actually demons, trying to take over the world with the powers that have been given to you. That's why it's your job to defeat them, by travelling to their base and defeating the demon master."
"But how are we supposed to defeat the demon master?"
"We don't know, we still have to figure that out."
Kayta frowned and walked away from the others back into the main room. Ley noticed and decided to follow her, leaving the others as they conversed.
Ley walked in and saw Kayta sitting on the couch, her legs crossed, flipping a coin. She tried to freeze it in midair with her hands, but she couldn't seem to get it to stop falling. Every time the coin fell, she got more and more frustrated. Eventually, Ley decided to get her attention.
Ley fished another smaller coin out of his pants pocket and threw it onto the couch, landing it exactly on top of the other one. Kayta, surprised, turned around to look at him.
"Try using this one," Ley smiled, sitting down next to her.
Kayta nodded sadly. "Thanks," she said. "Seems like your power is on full charge."
"I'm sure your power will come around," he replied. "You seemed frustrated, and you didn't even have your favourite snack, a chocolate chip cookie."
She looked at him and smiled.
"How did you know that was my favourite snack?"
Ley shrugged. "Lucky guess?"
Kayta sighed. "I guess I'm just really overwhelmed," she looked back down at the coins. "Like, if I can't even get this coin to freeze in the air, how am I supposed to defeat a demon master and save the world?"
"Hey, we all saw you solve that rubix cube middair. So you can't freeze a coin. It doesn't matter. We're all going to practice using our powers. And remember, you aren't going to defeat the demon alone. We have your back," Ley comforted.
Kayta bit her lip. "I know, but I'm still worried. It seems like such an impossible task," she confessed.
Ley put a hand on her shoulder. "We're all in this together, okay? Don't worry about it."
"Thanks, Ley."
She turned to him, eyes shining.
"I needed that."
Eloise poked her head through the doorway. "Uhh, guys?"
Kayta and Ley, startled, turned around and stood up.
"Um, is this a good time? I have a surprise for you," she said.
"We're coming," Kayta said, and the two of them followed Eloise upstairs into the attic, where everyone else was already waiting.
"So, what's this surprise you had for us, Eloise?" Star asked excitedly.
"Let me get it," Eloise rushed off, and returned with a giant box that she was clearly struggling to push.
Ashim and Xale looked at each other.
"We'll help," they said.
Eloise opened the box, and everyone peered around it.
"Wow!"
Inside the box was a bow and a quiver of arrows, two mega nerf guns, nunchucks, and a pair of ninja stars.
"Where did you get all of this?" Milly exclaimed.
"Let's just say my grandfather owns a martial arts studio," Eloise replied, reaching into the box.
"These are for you," she handed the arrows and quiver over to the wide-eyed Ley. "You have sharp ones, explosive ones, gas ones-"
"Poisonous gas?"
"No, more like smoke bomb ones, you know for distractions? But you have a few that explode with acid."
"Awesome!" Ley grinned.
Eloise handed the nerf guns to Star, "Here are your blasters."
"These are nerf guns," Star protested.
Eloise dug out a belt with different types of bullets on it. "I'm not old enough to get a license."
"So wait," Ashim said. "These weapons are basically a bunch of junk you put together?"
"It's not junk!" Eloise snapped. "It's... it's...."
"Really cool junk!" Xale exclaimed. "Do you have weapons for me?"
"Not really, I figured you could just use your flames," she replied, gesturing with her hands.
"Maybe..." Xale wiggled his eyebrows. "But I have a couple of ideas...."
