A/N This one's a bit on the long side....

"Stay alert!  Watch out for your enemy, the devil.  He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)

Kayta waited anxiously at her bedroom window, waiting for her friends to show up.  She was in the middle of flipping a coin and making it land on whichever side she wanted it to.  It was fun for Kayta to freeze the coin midair and flip it over.

The doorbell rang.  Kayta left her coin on the windowsill and rushed downstairs to open the door.  It was Ley, who had brought a bow and arrow from school.

"Hi Ley," Kayta rushed, clearly a little out of breath from running down the stairs.

"Hi Kayta," Ley mimicked.  He walked in and took off his shoes.  Ley had already been over to Kayta's house once before, for a project their teacher made them do in groups of two.  Their teacher had assigned the partners.

"What's the bow for?" Kayta asked, shyly.

"Oh, it's to show my power.  I thought it would be cool to experiment with it."

"Sounds good, just maybe not inside?" Kayta laughed.

"Course not!  I'll use it in the backyard.  We can take a piece of paper and draw a target, then stick it to the fence."  Ley grinned.

"Whee!" Star floated down from the sky to the front entrance of Kayta's house.

"Star!  You might get caught!  What if the neighbours saw you flying?" Ley scolded, concerned.

"Oh, don't worry.  Ashim came with me!  He tried to give me invisibility.  I don't know if it worked though."

Ashim walked up, just behind Star.  "Whew!" he panted.  "Star, you fly fast.  I had to sprint to keep up with her," he said, turning to Kayta and Ley.

"This is a really soft couch," Star remarked, stroking the material before sitting on it.  Kayta laughed.

"Where's Xale?" she asked.

"Oh, he went to his house." Ley replied.

"But isn't his house just down the street?"  She frowned.  "What's taking him so long?"

"I don't know.  You never know with Xale," Ashim said playfully.

"Should we get started?" Star opened her bag and pulled out her laptop.  "I did some research on why it's not possible for people to have powers."

"Well, it must be possible if we have powers," Ley answered, sitting down next to her.

Ashim was about to close the door when Xale came running, huffing and puffing.

"Xale!" Kayta exclaimed.  "What took you so long?"

"I got lost," he answered between huffs.

"How?"  Everyone else said in unison.  He shrugged and flopped down onto the couch.  Ashim closed the door and sat down on a chair.

"It's really quiet," Xale noted.  Coming from a big family, there was almost never a moment of silence at Xale's house.

"Where are your parents?" Star asked.

Kayta shifted nervously.  Her dad had died when she was 7 from a car accident and her mom worked overseas.  She didn't really like mentioning it though, it made people pity her.

"She lives with her grandmother," Ashim answered.  Ashim knew about Kayta's family well.  He gave her a small smile.

"Yeah, she's probably in her room praying or something."  Kayta quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
