"So when we put together our table of values what patterns do we see?" Ms. Lee smiled her super big smile and pointed at the math equation on the board.
Star was looking at the board, but she wasn't paying any attention at all. Her mind was full of calculations for the blasters Eloise had given her. It could shoot things from miles away and they looked so cool! You could put almost any type of amo in it and it would fire. Who wouldn't want a toy like that? Although Eloise kept saying that they weren't toys. But the weapons she gave out were just as fun.
"So now I'll be handing out our math worksheets..."
Star snapped back to attention.
"Oh... it looks like I forgot to print the worksheets again," Ms. Lee smiled again. "Well, I'll go print some. I'll be back soon! Make sure you all stay nice and quiet!" She turned and left the room.
As soon as she left, the room exploded. Everyone started talking, laughing, or pulling out their phones. Star pulled out a piece of paper and started jotting down ideas for her blasters.
"Star!" Someone tapped him on the shoulder. It was Kayta.
"Huh?" Star turned around.
"Do you feel that?"
"Feel what?"
"That... weird ominous presence."
"What?"
"Do you think it's the shadows?"
"Presence? Shadows? What are you talking about?"
A look of horror crossed Kayta's face. "They're here."
"Who's here?"
Kayta grabbed Star's arm and pulled her out of the classroom.
"What? Why? Who?" Star was so confused.
"We have to get the others!"
"We can't leave class!"
"Come on!"
Kayta started running down the hall.
"What's going on?" Star asked.
"The shadows are attacking."
"Again? Here?"
The girls turned the corner and ran into Ashim and Ley.
"Did you bring your stuff?" she asked them.
Ashim nodded. "It's in my locker."
"I brought my bow and arrow too," Ley added.
"You brought your weapons to school??!!" Star exclaimed. "You can get expelled for that!!!"
"How do you think Spider-Man saves the world?" Ley said as he started running down the hallway.
"What-?"
"He brings his suit to school!"
"What??"
"Come on!" Kayta and Ashim said at the same time.
"I didn't bring my blasters to school- I could get arrested for that!!!!"
But Ashim and Kayta were already halfway down the hall.
"You guys are nuts!" Star muttered.
The boys pulled out their weapons from their lockers; a sword for Ashim and a bow and arrow for Ley. Kayta pulled out her phone and began typing rapidly.
