"Do you think she'll come?" Ashim asked, plopping down beside Ley. They were sitting on the front steps of the church, waiting for Star.
"I mean the prayer thing she did was good, but I don't know if she's still interested-"
"Look! Is that her?" Ashim pointed at the parking lot.
Ley squinted and saw Star walking towards the church with her mom.
"It is!" He jumped up and sprinted down the stairs, unable to contain his excitement.
"Star!!!!" he yelled.
Ashim smiled to himself, happy for his friends. He was so lost in thought that he didn't hear Xale and Kayta walk up behind him.
"So she came?" Xale asked.
Ashim turned around, surprised. "Yeah, isn't it great?"
"It is, I'm excited for her." Kayta said.
Ashim opened his mouth to reply, but he was interrupted by Jem and Milly, who were screaming and jumping up and down with excitement.
"Guys!" Milly squealed. "We got adopted!!!!" the twins yelled.
"Really?"
"That's great!"
"Yeah! And the couple said they'd adopt both of us together!" Jem exclaimed.
"We won't be separated!" Milly added.
"What's happening?" Ley asked, walking up to the group with Star.
"We got adopted!" Jem and Milly shouted in unison.
"That's awesome!!" Star congratulated, hugging Milly
"You know what's awesome," Eloise said, coming up behind them. "You coming to church."
Star grinned. "Thanks, I'm glad I could make it."
"The service is starting soon, we should get to our seats." Ashim motioned towards the pews.
Side by side with her friends, Star followed the rest of the crowd into the church.
"I'm so nervous!!!!" Xale exclaimed, running his fingers through his hair. He was pacing back and forth in his bedroom, making Ashim more and more dizzy with every turn.
"Bro stop walking around! You're gonna make me go crazy!"
"I am going crazy!" Xale said, flinging his hands out in front of him, before going back to pacing the room. "What if she doesn't like it? What if I embarrass myself? What if she never wants to see me again?!!!!"
Ashim got up from the bed and placed his hands on Xale's shoulders.
"Xale, you got this! Everything is gonna work out fine! Eloise is gonna love everything you have for her."
"But-" Just then, the doorbell rang downstairs.
"Oh no!!!" Xale moaned. "That's her!!! What if-"
"No time for what ifs! You have to answer the door!" Ashim turned Xale around and pushed him out of the room and down the stairs by the shoulders.
"What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?" Xale panicked.
"I know what you're going to do." Ashim straightened Xale's plaid button up shirt. "You're gonna open that door and have a nice time with Eloise at the movies." He attempted to flatten Xale's messy hair. "Do you have money?"
