"For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds." (1 Corinthians 10:4)
"So what's the plan?" Ley asked.
It was early in the morning on a Saturday, and the group was planning to leave in an hour or two. They had come very early to have breakfast, get their stuff ready, and come up with a plan.
"This is gonna be a hard mission. We don't know much about the demons. And the base seems pretty big," Eloise replied, looking at her smartphone.
"We'll have to sneak in somehow," Star yawned. She was not an early bird.
"And find Milly," Jem repeated. "That's our top priority right now."
"Definitely," Kayta said, nodding.
She reached over the counter for a chocolate chip cookie. It wasn't healthy this early in the morning, but they were going on a dangerous mission, and she needed the energy.
"So we're using these walkie talkies to communicate?" Ashim held up the small gadget Eloise had given to him.
"Yep. Just hold down the button and speak into it. We'll receive your message on the other side," she explained. "Who wants to hold on to ours?"
"I will," Kayta volunteered.
Eloise threw it to her and Kayta stopped it in midair, then made it descend gently into her outstretched hands. She grinned as her friends clapped.
"That's really good, Kayta. We'll definitely be able to take on the demons with that," Ley praised.
"Thanks." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"El, do you have the compass?" Xale commented. Eloise held up a small gadget that somewhat resembled a compass. Ashim narrowed his eyes at him.
"El?" he smirked. "Since when did you start calling her El?"
"Yes, X," Eloise rolled her eyes, ignoring Ashim's comment. "Okay. I think we're ready. I don't see why we shouldn't leave now."
"X? You're calling him X now?" Ashim exclaimed, turning to Eloise. She rolled her eyes again.
"Let's go!" Star flung open the door, jumped into the air. Jem bolted out after her, gone before anyone could blink. Everyone started to follow out of the kitchen. Ashim stopped Kayta.
"Ashim, if you're gonna tell me to stay here again, I'm not-" she started.
"I think we should set up some sort of distress call," he interrupted. "Something you can say into the walkie talkie in case something goes wrong."
Kayta's eyes widened, but she nodded.
"That's a good idea. Why don't we have a code word?" Kayta suggested.
"Okay, that would work. The code word is..." Ashim looked around the room, looking for an idea. "The code word will be elephant," he said, pointing to a painting of an elephant on a savanna.
Kayta laughed. "Okay. In case anything happens, I'll say elephant and you'll know what to do," she confirmed.
They started for the door, but Kayta stopped short.
"Ash."
He turned to her, surprised that she was using his nickname.
"Things won't go wrong right?"
Ashim looked down at the floor, uncertain of how he should answer.
"If things do go wrong," he finally said. "I'll still be here okay? Don't worry about it Kay."
