Playing With Fire || Book One, Water

The Great City of Omashu

Kaya spent two weeks rationing out food and water so that she would have enough for her journey to the great city of Omashu.

Kaya's father Harouk was raised in Omashu and Kaya hoped that she would be able to find some family or shelter within the city. Unfortunately she would have to leave the fire nation boat behind and continue the mission on foot. She passed by a small earth bending village where she purchased some traditional earth bender clothes so that she would blend in with the people in the city.

She finally reached the great wall and approached the guards at the front. She took up the new identity of Honi, an orphaned non bender searching for a place to seek refuge. The guards reluctantly let her in and told her to stay out of trouble. Kaya wandered the streets admiring the different style of architecture when she stumbled upon an old woman carrying many bags.

"Here let me help you please." Kaya offered the woman.

"Thank you young lady! What a kind gesture of yours." The woman responded.

Kaya walked the old woman and her bags to large house in the upper class.

"Thank you so much for your help! What is your name?" The woman asked.

"Im Honi. I come from the earth bending village not to far out." Kaya lied.

"What a beautiful name for a beautiful young lady. Please join me for dinner, my name is Nalo."

Kaya knew that name was familiar but she brushed it off and followed Nalo to her new room.

"Here, you may stay here for as long as you would like. I enjoy the company! Dinner will be ready in an hour, feel free to go as you please." Nalo said as the walked out the door shutting it behind her.

Curiosity overcame Kaya and she began opening all the drawers and cabinets not looking for anything in particular. She found a few journals and pictures along with some old jewelry. Kaya opened up the journal and began reading a random entry.

I hope you are well my son. I have not heard from you in a few days and wanted to make sure all is well. I would love to meet my new granddaughter! I had a dream or vision where she would become a powerful bender and will help rid the world of this war. It might just be the excitement of a new baby girl in the family that is making all my visions crazy. Stay safe son. I love you.

Kaya closed the journal and before she could put it back she noticed a picture on the ground. She picked it up and saw an image of a baby girl. The date on the back matched her birthday. Kaya was trying to convince herself that this was all just one big coincidence and put everything back where she found it.

She left the room and walked down to the kitchen where she was faced with the delicious smells of roasted chicken.

"Honi! Dinner is almost ready, please take a seat I will be right there."

Once Nalo sat down the mood seemed to change. There was a cool breeze coming in through the open windows and you could hear the crickets outside.

"It is an honor to finally meet you." Nalo says, breaking the silence.

"Excuse me?"

"Kaya. There is no need to hide your true identity. Grandmothers seem to know when they are in the presence of family." Nalo responded

Kaya sat there in shock and all of the things she had read had not been a coincidence but reality. She had finally reconnected with family.

The night went on and Kaya shared the stories of her time in the Fire nation until she began falling asleep.

The next day, Kaya woke up to knocking on her bedroom door.

"Good morning Kaya. I have something to show you."

Kaya quickly got dressed and followed Nalo into the city.

Nalo came to a stop infront of the bank and signaled Kaya to go inside.

"They know you are here. You do not have to say a word. Go inside." Nalo instructed.

The guards escorted Kaya down a few sets of stairs and to a large safe. They inserted a pin and the locks began to turn. Before she could process what was going on, she was face to face with mountains of gold.
