Kaya barely got any sleep that night because she was busy reading all about blood bending.

She had never heard of it before and was terrified of what she read. She now understood why it was called the water benders curse. Blood bending defeated the entire purpose of water bending because it was so inhumane and powerful.

Blood bending had been kept a secret and she doubted that Lord Ozai knew what it was.

Even though blood bending was horrible, Kaya was very interested and decided that she would teach herself in secret whenever she could. She was aware that only certain water benders are given this gift or "curse" but to Kaya, blood bending seemed like her way out of the war.

The next morning she woke up very early and headed to her Fire bending class. Today was much more productive as she was able to harness the energy around her and produce an electric shock. Its not lightning but it was close.

Once her class was over she walked over to a pond and took her water bending book out and began reading how to blood bend. There were many steps and Kaya realized that this would be a much harder task than she thought. First she tried blood bending a small fish by the side of the pond.

Kaya controlled her breathing enough that she felt completely relaxed and was able to feel the ground beneath her and the air around her. She focused on the fish and with her hand, she guided when she wanted the fish to go. It took many tries but after an hour, the fish stopped moving completely and as Kaya guided her hand to the left, the fish was pulled to the left.

It would take alot of practice to learn how to blood bend a human but Kaya was determined.

The next few days were very productive. Kaya was able to successfully summon a small lightning bolt and direct it to the sky. She was also progressing in her secret blood bending abilities. She was now able to blood bend larger animals with her hands and smaller animals only using her head. She was very proud of her progress and was very happy that she had discovered a way to defend herself.
