The group set course towards the northern water tribe, with many stops to do some of Aang's favorite activities. Kaya rarely took part in planning, she usually sat by herself completely consumed by her thoughts.
She wondered what would have happened if Zuko would have recognized her back at their previous encounter.
"Stop bugging her airhead, you need to give girls space when they do their sewing." Kaya heard Sokka say.
"What does Katara being a girl have to do with sewing?!" Kaya asked him.
At this point Kaya and Katara were both looking at each other completely tuning out whatever sexist remarks Sokka was making, But once Sokka finished what he had to say, Katara just threw the unfinished pants at his head.
"All done with your pants!" Katara told him.
Kaya decided to take a short nap before they landed to camp out and once she felt the thud of Appa's feet hitting the floor she knew it was time to set up everything again. However, she jumped down from his saddle she saw Aang riding the elephant koi!
Both Katara and Sokka were too busy to notice that Appa had run off so Kaya went to go look for him.
"There you are! You shouldn't be eating that!" Kaya said as she yanked a suspicious berry branch out of his mouth before he swallowed it. Kaya decided to walk around with Appa gathering some firewood so that the group would not have to do so much work later. As she was walking back to were everyone was, she noticed how quiet it was.
"They must have left without us boy." She said to the large bison who was not paying any attention to her at all.
Kaya walked along the coast and began to recognize the area a lot.. it seemed very familiar to her. Thats it! They had landed on Kyoshi Island!
"Oh no. They didn't leave.. they were taken right to the city!"
Kaya tied Appa to a tree and gave him some food from her pouch and she sprinted towards the direction of the village.
"Kaya? Is that you?"
Kaya turned around and was greeted by one of the Kyoshi warriors.
"Sunni! Its so good to see you again!" Kaya exclaimed.
"Its good to see you too! How have you been? And more importantly where are you going in such a hurry?" Sunni asked
"I think my friends are in the village. They must have been mistaken for intruders but I assure you they mean no harm." Kaya responded.
"Any friend of a previous warrior is a friend of ours. Come with me, there is a shortcut to the village this way. Ill help you get them out of trouble."
The two made it through the forest and as expected, Katara, Sokka and Aang were all tied up to the statue of Kyoshi.
Sokka was raging about how they had been ambushed by a group of girls and Kaya could not help but burst out laughing.
"Suki! You have a visitor!" Sunni yells
"Not now! We have to deal with these spies first."
"How are you? Its been so long since I saw you." Kaya says while standing behind Suki.
"Kaya? Kaya!!! Its really you! I can't believe you are here! We have all missed you so much." Suki exclaimed while pulling Kaya into a hug.
"Wait. Kaya you know these girls?" Sokka asked
"Of course! I fought alongside them for three years!"
"So can you get us out please?" He asked
"Kaya, these are your friends? How can we be sure they are not fire nation spies?" Governor Oyaji asked.
"Don't worry! They are not spies, he is the avatar!" Kaya said pointing at Aang.
Once everyone realized that Aang was the avatar joy spread through the city like a wildfire. People were celebrating the return of the avatar and showering the group with gifts and food.
Kaya was so happy to finally be back with all the warriors.
The next day she joined the girls in the dojo for training and after so long of not fighting, she needed some work.
"Sorry ladies, didn't mean to interrupt your dance lesson. I was just looking for somewhere to get a little workout?" Sokka said flexing his *nonexistent* muscles.
"Well, you're in the right place. Sorry about yesterday, I didn't know you were friends with Kaya." Suki replied.
"Its alright, I mean normally i'd hold a grudge but seeing as you guys are a bunch of girls, ill make an exception."
"I should hope so. A big strong man like you. We wouldn't stand a chance..."
To make a long story short, Sokka demonstrated some of his "moves" and got his ass kicked by Suki. Kaya was trying so hard not to laugh.
The girls continued their training as usual when Sokka walked in.. again.
"Uh, hey Suki."
"Hoping for another dance lesson?" She replied
Sokka fell to his knees and practically begged to be taught some of their fighting techniques.
Suki could not make up her mind but Kaya walked up to her and whispered something into her ear.
"Kaya is right. If you want us to teach you, you have to follow all of our traditions..."
Sokka was quickly put into uniform. Makeup and all.
"Kaya, this feels a bit girly." Sokka said, embarrassed.
"Its a warriors' uniform. You should be proud." Kaya replied.
"Hey Sokka! Nice dress!" Aang says while walking past the dojo.
Kaya stayed to watch Sokka's training session when the governor came in frantically waving his arms.
"Fire benders have landed on our shores! Girls! Come quickly!"
"Zuko.." Kaya whispered under her breath.
"What?!" Sokka asked her.
"Nothing! Lets go!" Kaya said pulling Sokka down the hill.
As Kaya was running down the hill she saw Suki get thrown to the side by a rhino and was about to get hit by a fire blast. Kaya quickly bended the water from a barrel to engulf the flame and grab the fire bender's arm. She yanked him from the saddle and saw his scar as he flew above her before crashing into a building.
Kaya ran off, afraid of having to confront Zuko. She ran as fast as she could to where they were keeping Appa and quickly loaded the saddle with all their stuff.
"Yip Yip!" Kaya yelled. As she soared through the sky, she kept her eyes peeled for the other three.
"Aang! Katara! Get on quickly!" Kaya said to the two.
"Where's Sokka?!" Katara asked her.
"He's with the other warriors!" She replied.
Once everyone was on Appa's saddle they took off again. A familiar feeling of guilt filling Kaya's head.
"Ill see you soon." Kaya mouthed down to Suki, who seemed to understand her message.
All of a sudden, Aang jumped into the water and came out riding the unagi! He managed to steer it to spray the village, putting out the flames.
Once Appa caught Aang, the group was back to sailing the skies.
