Jonathan
I've never been so nervous in my life. The fact that I will be meeting Maxwell's parents is stressing me out. I wanted to make a good first impression. I changed into a pair of black skinny jeans and a black button-up shirt, with a black Louis Vuitton belt and black dress shoes. I told my parents I was eating with Taylor's tonight, which is technically true. She will just be there at the Damiens house, with me. I styled my hair so it didn't look so messy. I was trying to slowly sneak out of the house so my parents wouldn't hear me and stop and ask question but I failed. "Jonathan, stop. I need to speak with you." My dad said in his stern voice. "Yes." I stopped and turned to him. "I need you to take training a little more seriously, you need to know all aspects of the job. Look your mom didn't want me to say anything yet. But I plan on retiring soon. And I want to make sure my son, is able to take over." He crosses his arms and gave me a stern look. "I understand. I'll be there tomorrow." I sighed just giving in.
"Look, your dad is getting old. I didn't meet your mom until I was 33. Then we had you a couple of months later. I'm pushing 50 right now. I know this may not be something you want to do. Trust me, I didn't want to do it either when I was your age. But it will grow on you if you give it a chance, alright?" He was right, my dad was getting old whether I liked it or not. I needed to do this for him. I nodded and gave him a small smile and look of concern before I walked out of the house.

It was a quick drive, just 10 minutes up the street. I was just sitting in the driveway scared out of my mind. I just wanted to make a good first impression. I had bought a plant for them, hopefully they like plants and aren't allergic. Oh gosh what if they are allergic! I just need to do inside before they think I ditched them. I walked to the front door, with my plant in hand and knocked on the door. My heart was beating so fast, I bet you could see it pumping in my chest. The door opened and the smell of pure Italian food hit my nose, and it was delicious. Maxwell stood there with his hair straight framing his face, a burgundy button-up with the top two buttons were undone. And a pair of black slacks. "Hello beautiful." He winked at me and I walked into the house slowly taking in the decor and feel of the place. Even though it was a huge mansion. It felt like a home.
"Everyone is in the kitchen." Maxwell smiles and noticed the plant I had in my hands. "You didn't need to bring anything you know." He grabbed the plant from me and grabbed my hand and lead me through the house. "Oh." Was all I said. I could hear laughter and a lot more voices than the four I was expecting. "I thought you said it was a family dinner?" I stopped in my tracks before I saw anyone else. "It is, and it just so happens to be every one in my family. They are going to love you I promise." He gave my hand a squeeze and took me to the dining room, and it was filled with people in their best dress. They all stopped talking and turned to me. My heart fell to my stomach and nerves got the best of me. "Family, this is my mate, Jonathan." Maxwell introduced me and they all started clapping and overlapping saying it was nice to meet me, and other things in I guess Italian. "Come in! Come!" An older woman came and grabbed my arm and pulled me in. I turned back to look at Maxwell and he just gave me a reassuring smile.
After I was introduced to every aunt, uncle, cousin, and sibling. Taylor came and she was going through it with me. After about 30 minutes we were all at the sitting at the dining room table. They were sharing stories and having laughs, drinking wine. It was such a positive atmosphere. "Jonathan, Maxwell has told us that you are training to be the head pick doctor?" I had figured out that she was Maxwell's grandma which they called nonna. "Yes, my family has been pack doctors for years. Well, since the first pack actually." I said taking a bite from my pasta. "You can date your family that far?" She asked me. "Yes, there is a detailed family history book on my father's side. And on my mother's side, of course, is the King alphas. So I've never had to really wonder where I come from." I gave her a smile and took another bite.
It was true, I was lucky to know who my family was. My lineage, where I come from. "Well, that's amazing. Anyways, thank you for joining us for dinner. We usually hold these dinners once a month. But when my son told me that Maxwell was having his mate over I had to invite the family." She looked to Maxwell and gave him a loving look. "I compagni sono un dono della luna. Una rarità che dobbiamo sempre custodire." Maxwell said looking at me with loving eyes. "Mates are a gift from the moon. A rarity we must always treasure." Augusta translated, giving Taylor that same look. "Augusta, Maxwell, go be with your mates. I love you my dolcezza!" Nonna yelled as we got up and I followed Maxwell out of the dining room. We made down the hallway to a staircase and I followed him up. We made it to his room, and his scent overwhelmed me. He closed the door behind me and I walked and sat on the bed.
"How are you feeling?" He asked and sat down next to me. "It was a little overwhelming. You have such a big family." I chuckled a little bit. "Yeah, I guess I kind of forget that sometimes. Do you want a big family?" He asked as he grabbed my hand and strayed playing with me fingers. "Yeah, I want to have a bunch of kids. How about you?" I turned and looked up at him. "I want as many as you want." We both laughed and I rolled my eyes at him. He got up and laid down on the pillows. Then he laid on arm out I assume for me to go join him. I went and laid on his chest, my head in his neck out arms wrapped around each other. We stayed silent for a few moments, enjoying being together. "What did it feel like when Olivia died?" I knew this question was going to come up sooner or later.
"It felt like emptiness. I could no longer feel my heart. The place where it's supposed to be felt void. Nothing felt right, my breathing even didn't feel right. I was constantly questioning my existence, and trying to keep my will to live. It was so awful that..." I trailed off and took a deep breath. "I almost went rogue. I always knew that I was prone to being rogue, I had the 'gene' or whatever you call it. It made me do absolutely crazy. It's something I never want to feel again." I know for a fact that if I were to go through that again, I wouldn't make it. "I don't know if you've heard the stories but my mother was kidnapped by her own brother. And locked away until she was 22 years old. She fought going rogue the entirety of her disappearance. To the point where it became apart of her. We didn't think there was a way for it to be passed down by genetics, until they had me. Which is the main reason why my parents has no other children." I took a deep breath in and I could feel my eyes start to water. "That's why you pushed me away, you're so scared that I'm going get hurt?" I didn't say anything back, I just nodded at him. "I have to fight the urge every day not to turn rogue. Do you remember the first night we were together and I kicked every one out after I found out you were engaged? Well that's what was happening, I could feel it creeping on me. Trying to take me over." I started crying and Maxwell just stayed there holding me.
"I get so scared every time. That maybe this time is the last time I am ever myself. And I don't want to feel that way anymore." I sobbed a little bit into his chest and grabbed onto his shirt. "And ever since that night in the hospital it's like a weight has been lifted. I feel almost free?? And I don't want to you go feel like you the responsibility of making sure that I don't go crazy." Maxwell grabbed my face and pushed it to where I would face him. "Sh sh sh, it's my duty as your mate to worry about you. To do everything I possibly can to make you happy. And that's exactly what I'm going to do." We pulled me tighter to him as I cried into his chest. I felt so free, happy, and at peace laying here with him. Though it was getting very late and I knew that I needed to get home. "I should go, I have a long day tomorrow." Though I made no effort to move. "Will I see you tomorrow?" Maxwell asked as he ran his fingers up and down my back. "Probably not, I have a long day tomorrow at the hospital for training. I won't be seeing much of anyone." I sighed and closed my eyes, I was fighting the urge to sleep, I really wanted to just stay here.
"Well, I can always come on your lunch break? If you have one?" Neither of us could imagine going a day without seeing each other but I knew the likelihood of that was small. "I don't get 'lunch breaks' I kind of eat whenever I can. But I will try and call you when I have a free moment." We sat there for a few moments, I really did not want to leave. But I saw the time and it was 12:30 I knew I should go. Seeing as training starts at 8. I reluctantly got up and so did Maxwell. "Text me when you make it home?" He said as he walked me to the front door of the house. "I will." "Get a good night's sleep, and if I don't see you tomorrow then I will the first thing Monday morning okay?" He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me to him. "Okay." He leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on my forehead. "I'll see you later." "Goodnight, my love."
